you need to install city navigator.
you need to install city navigator.

If you read the text you'll see that is a route imported from Mapsource.
You can get that tab back by selecting 'None' at the bottom of the Activity Profiles drop down.
Told you I was a Numpty!!
That'll be it and should explain all your problems...
Log onto your myGarmin account, go to the myMaps tab and click the download button next to 2013.10, on the next screen choose option 2. You will probably need to plug in your Zumo at this stage to validate the download. This will down load the map installer. Once the map installer is running you need the 'install options' button. From here you need to opt to download to PC only and continue... the download will take a few hours it will then install the mapping on your PC.
It should then appear in the available mapping products drop down menu.

If you don't have mapping available on-line, can't recall if you bought a Lifetime subscription, only £47 from Handtec inc. delivery now, or not. Or if you got the nuMaps guarantee (free update to latest mapping - 2013.10). If not you will need to use the DVD that came with your 660 to install the 2012.10 mapping that came with it. Once installed you'll need to unlock it on-line with Garmin.
It's important that the mapping on your 660 and on your PC is the same version.
There is a common misconception that Basecamp and/or Mapsource are the actual mapping. They are just programs to manipulate the mapping data which is a separate entity. You need both Basecamp and the mapping data for this to work.
You're on a steep learning curve Stonker, but I assure you it will all be worth it in the end![]()
When I first got the Garmin, I tried to download the latest maps but couldn't. I think this is because it's a re-furbished unit. I have emailed Garmin but no response yet. I'll try again and if it doesn't work I'll use the DVD.
I guessed I wouldn't be the only one struggling so thought I'd try to structure this thread so that it helps others too.

@stonker - Yes, refurb units are ok to get updates as described.
It's clear what's happening on your PC re. the straight line but at the moment, before you add any other maps... If you connect the Gps, where the unit type is displayed at the top left - which map options are showing?
Just the base map?
I'm presuming you've been using the thing around your own place ok? Have you possibly got a reasonably recent map in the unit but only UK at the mo?
Put another way - if you have the unit and not connected, go to Tools Settings Map Map Info - what's it say?

NüMaps guarantee: your device will be updated for free if a more recent map is available within the 60 days following the date you first use your GPS (1st GPS fix). Connection to the Garmin website required.
Beware that having the Zumo plugged in will show the mapping on the unit in Basecamp and allow you to use it. However, this is not the same as having the mapping installed on your PC. As soon as you unplug the Zumo the mapping wont be available, it's slower and you only have the chunk of Europe that will fit on the Zumo. This is probably OK for 2012.10 TBH but current version will only be Western Europe.
You do need to have full Europe on your PC...
Off the topic - if you guys are new to going abroad guided by such devices - I'd deffo recommend a GTM-12 traffic alert unit. Plug and play into the Zumo leads, a bit of amalgamating tape round the connectors and you're done. No subs to pay, but a greyed out circle where no coverage, green if it's ok and alerts if a problem and if clicked, options to avoid routing off and back onto your planned route. Antenna round the GSA screen mount.
Pics if you want.
