Not so basic anymore. Just been on the UK configurator and it appeared to me standard non electronic suspension is no longer available. Anyone ordered a basic bike recently? Last one I saw was at Sycamore brand new in July.

Perhaps the new model is coming before Christmas if they can get the parts

Bought mine late last year, but if there is not going to be a non ESA model available from now on then in my case I will not be buying any more new GS/GSA's in the future

I think I would not feel great if I splashed £12-13k or whatever they cost on a new bike to have the salesperson say "congratulations on your new....basic"

Especially hard on you when your Basic goes in for service and every mechanic who rides it says it is the nicest handling and most comfortable GSA that they have ever ridden

Bought mine January 2021, standard suspension.
Me too, if they don't provide standard suspension, no more new GS's for me. However, I find hard to believe that news for the future.
Here in Portugal, the confugurator allows you only the ESA, Shift Assist and few more things. No more full standard. And the price went up €3000. Maybe they just need to get rid of ESA units they have in stock because something new is on the way.

Hi,was in A jeffries a couple of weeks ago trying to order a basic 1250 gs with heated grips for march 2023 ,salesmans reply was youve got no chance everything coming through is te spec with extras starting at around £18,500,:blast.A shame :comfort will now have to start looking at other makes or keep my twincam gs sounds like BMW only want pcp customers,im not blaming Jeffries i have had half a dozen bikes of them and always got well looked after and it will be interesting to see what its like with vertu.

Few weeks ago, when I was at the dealer, I spoke to the salesman who sold me my bike 22 months ago. I asked about no possibility to order a basic bike anymore and he said yes, it's true, as new model is coming in late 2023 they have to get rid of most of the stock of extras they have piled up so if you want new bike you have to buy it loaded with extras, no other way.

We were very lucky taking the last standard models and make the adjustments as we like...

I love the ESA :nenau

I used to hate adjusting suspension for passengers or luggage. the electrickery makes it a no brainer for me

MY 2014 GSA te needed 2 front and 2 rear shocks withing 34 months and 13,000 miles ( luckily under two years manufacturers warranty and the third year given to me for free by BMW UK) , I have ridden numerous GS/GSA's LC models with all the iterations of ESA and non of them handled as well as a Basic on it's standard shocks (never mind when fitted with Maxton or similar ), as I previously said every BMW technician who has ridden either of my Basic model lc's or my previous Maxton equipped R1200GSA TC hexhead have commented how the Basic runs rings around the ESA models with regards to handling and ride quality .

Best description from an Ohlins trained BMW technician was that the front ESA senses a road imperfection and by the time the signal reaches the rear it decides that the best solution is to try and road roller the bump flat with the rear wheel.

I know last year when I bought the 1250 I could have picked a TE model from the showroom floor but I had ridden a set lap of 40 or so miles over varying roads including moors roads on the way to the dealers on my r1200gsa Basic, then I rode the same lap on their r1250gsa demonstrator with ESA and yes on smooth roads it was fine but pushing it on badly surfaced roads it was awful and not comfortable .

Made the decision to order a r1250gsa triple black Basic and put down the deposit and then just to be 100% in my own mind rode the circuit on the way home on my own bike and it was like chalk and cheese, settled and above all else comfortable.

For the sake of twiddling the adjuster know three or four turns when I carry a passenger and luggage I am more than happy to not have ESA

Agree. I don't take a pillion and use luggage once or twice a year.
At least with basic suspension it is cheaper and easier to upgrade if required.
