I have my Optimate which keeps my bike, mower and assorted other smallish lead acid batteries topped up.
What is the best simialr charger/conditioner for car-sized batteries? I seem to get through at least a couple of batteries each year as they inadvertantly discharge while I'm away.

I use an Optimate on the car, no problem, 24/7/365. It's a big battery for a sports car, so it takes a lot of umph. I had the cigarette lighter socket converted to take an inwards current.

I can't remember which one it is but it has a small switch to move it from 6v to 12v.

You'll find it on Optimate's website or give them a call.

Works well, too.

I bought my mother a very simple Oxford charger, similar to an Optimate, to keep her VW Golf topped up. That works well, too.

I have kept my 1950 Lancia on an Optimate for the past three years (since recommission). Six cylinder engine with carb technology - started first time every time until I sold the car last week :tears

Why not try ...

... a Solar Panel, plenty here from Maplin. A friend has a little used Mini and had consistent battery drain problems until she stuck one of these on the windscreen; doesn't need full sun, just daylight for a constant trickle charge :nenau

I already looked at the website, but the Optimate is only rated for 50AH batteries - not enough for my land rovers I think
