Hi folks, I have to disconnect my battery as I'm shipping my bike abroad. Will just doing the earth strap be OK to preserve the battery or do I need to disconnect both? Thanks for the advice!

It's normal policy to just disconnect the negative.
Negative should be disconnected first anyway, and disconnecting positive as well won't achieve anything extra, will it?

Make sure the loose negative connection can't spring back and make contact with the battery terminal (tape it up or sleeve it).

Brilliant Tarka, thanks, that's exactly the answer I'd hoped was correct. :beerjug:

If you're shipping it by air you'll need to drain the bike of any petrol & I'd say the battery would have to be fully disconnected ,
Going by sea could be different !.

Always disconnect the earth first and reconnect it last. It saves a nasty potential (did you see what I did there?)

Just disconnecting earth will be fine for shipping but, as Tarka says, tape or cable tie it so that it can't spring back and make contact.

Petrol usually needs drained for shipping by sea too and no dirt on it anywhere.

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.
