Battery drain?

Hi all, my battery on 2000 1150 GS seems to struggle to stay charged, if I don’t ride it for a week or two it needs a boost to start. Battery was new in the spring, fully charged is about 12.6 v, charging rate when running is 14.2, so do I have a short somewhere? Not great on electrics, what should I be looking at? Tia, Alex.

the first question is always, does the bike have any electrical modifications? If yes, unplug them and monitor drainage.

The easiest way to check for parasitic drain is with a clamp ammeter. BTW, just because a battery change was relatively recent, never discount it's potential to have sulphated, if you haven't been using a battery tender whenever the bike is not in use.

So, disconnect any electrical mods, then, if the drain is still present look through the options discussed here: -

I have a parasitic battery drain on my 2001 R1150GS of 11ma and have removed all fuses one by one along with all relays again one by one in the fuse box and none of them causes the reading to go down. The drain flattens the battery after about 4 weeks if not used and this is not ideal at this time of year when riding time is reduced so I wanted to try to get the issue resolved before spring arrives.

The reading is the same with all accessories disconnected from the battery and only the single positive lead connected and the negative lead and battery connected in series through the...

No mods, totally standard bike, no alarm, etc.
