Had an 'interesting' evening...

ABS light came on during me run in to work this morning, coupled with the GPS switching off. "Hmmm, most odd" I thought, but figured I would worry about it at home time.

Said time duly arrived and dammit the bike wouldn't start. Rang the AA, but got no answer, so hung up as a friend offered to gimme a push. Got it going, but running slightly rough and with a warning of lamp failure - sure enough the tail-light wasn't on. "Hmmm, even odder" I thought, as it's an LED affair so can't have blown.

Decided to ride it home across town anyway as it's well lit and I have various bits of red reflector on the boxes, plus the number plate light working.

Things going well despite the odd mis-fire, and random tooting of horn / flashing of full beam, until I slowed at a roundabout and the damn thing stalled. That was it, no chance of a re-start, and only two miles form home.

Called BMW assist at 6.21, and then waited... and waited... and waited. Rescue truck finally turned up at 9pm and got me home by 9.30pm

Luckily the friend I lodge with during the week had driven over after an hour and I could sit in his car cuz at 2 degrees I was getting berluddy cold. We did try further bump starts but no joy.

I suspect the battery has died judging by the random tooting etc, and the tail-light was back on after 30 seconds on the charger...

Bummer, Dave

This is helpful so don't think i'm been clever cus I don't have one.. Harry off of here fitted a NN-jump start kit to his bike just for this sort of thing. He fitted it up under the radiator & carry's the other part that can be attached to a car battery. Always thought it would be handy, never got around to buying the kit myself.

Broken batteries do tend to cause havock with these EFI bikes, CAN-bus even worse. Hope you've pinpointed the culprit and you get it fixed ASAP.
