I was just thinking, when do you need to change your battery?,ok I know if it's flat it's flat, what I am getting at is,the battery on my bike has been on from new,(05),I plug it upto the optimate when bike is not in use, bike always starts first time, but so as not to get caught out, when would you think about changing your battery, when it goes flat,or after so many years?
By the way, the bike has just on 30k:thumb2

I changed my'n at 63,000 miles and is an 06. Very cold starts were becoming too slow. They don't last for ever. You can either wait until you are caught out or splash the dosh and pop a new one in for peace of mind.

I expect some technical person will tell you how to test it shorlty.......

Measure the battery charge and if it is within the accepted range just treat it as you are doing now. If you're not sure how to do this, have a look on the forum or take it to a garage and ask them to test it for you. If it's starting first time, it sounds as though it is still OK. :thumb2

right'o boys,I'll see if the battery will go above 63k,maybe the battery will outlast the bike:JB

My car battery had lasted 8 years & although it was still OK I replaced it for a new 'un & kept the old 'un as a spare.

On a similar tack I'm preparing to replace my 2005 GS battery with an Odyssey from Finn's supplier. My current GS battery will be kept in the warm, charged & used as a spare when touring solo.
