Anybody got any idears, started the bike this morning and the battery light will not go out i.e. its not charging, changed battery for a new one same fault? any idears or is a Dealer job:confused:

Its a R1200GSA 18 months old

Snapped alternator belt:nenau

Bad neg/pos connections t'other end of battery connections:nenau

But would have thought a dealer would have checked these, otherwise I have no idea. Lucky it's still in warranty.

Have tried the belt all ok will have a look at t'other ends

If it's not charging, why would you change the battery?

:nenau
Measure the battery voltage with the engine running at a fast tickover; it needs to be 13.8V - 14.5V for the battery to charge properly. Anything less means something is amiss with the charging system.

If it's still in warranty, however, all of this is immaterial - take it to the dealer to get it fixed.

The reason i charged the battery, was once fully charged it held at 13.2V so its not the battery at fault then I refitted the battery run at fast tickover and was only showing 12.2-12.5 Volts so off to BMW sick bay tommorrow:eek:

But I didn't ask why you'd charged the battery, I asked why you'd changed it for a new one!! Read your original post; did you charge it or change it? Bit of a difference, don't you think?

I did both I have a spare new battery and the original :pullface

The new battery made no difference so i charged the original up and put it back on with the same result for both so it must be the charging system:nenau

Keep calm its under warranty:comfort

Regulator/rectifier.

It's probably blown a diode on one phase of the alternators rectifier. Dealer job.

Got the heap picked up now back at local BMW dealer, they phoned this afternoon to comfirm the Alternator was knackered (9,633miles from new)and so rare for this part to fail its had to be ordered from Germany as no stock in UK:eek:

Never mind at least they offered me a loan bike:thumb
