Don't think a multi-meter shows you very much, drop testing or checking electrolite level may give a better indication of battery condition.

poutput, may be just a surly battery :aidan

Skidlydog......Pull the spark plug leads (all 4) and turn the bike over for 15 seconds with a digi MM on the battery......or come up with another creative way of turning it over without it starting up

If the LOADED volts reading drops below about 9.5 volts, chances are the battery is fekked.

PS don't automatically go for 'An Oddysey' just because it's the one that gets mentioned all the time.......they are overpriced and not particularly good at deep discharge recovery....it's just that people know the name and they give stickers out, so people think of them as the Bee's Knees.

Exide or the BMW OEM batteries are just as good, if not better, and usually cheaper, and you dont have to fekk about with silly bracketry either.

Use your noggin, have a look at what's available and you'll get a battery that is just as good for 30-40 quid cheaper.

If you're not going off-road with the bike, you don't even need a GEL battery......again, that's just something that the brand/image name aficionados like, because it makes them feel 'special'

As fanum stated above, a volt check wont prove anything, a knackered battery can still show volts but wont turn anything under load, we get this all the time from numpty engineers thinking that a volt meter showing the battery has 12v is OK :blast

You could also just stick your meter on it and turn all your lights on watching to see if the volts drops quickly, not as much load as the starter but a good indication on battery condition. :thumb2

Draw a smiley face on the side of the battery, if you come back in an hour and the face is sad it definitely the battery poutput! Failing that take it to your local garage etc.. And have it load tested, takes 5 seconds and you'll know the answer.
