Hi All sorry to say my GSA let me down with a flat battery called BMW and fitted new battery all ok did not use the bike for two weeks as I was ill got the bike out of garage flat battery again. At this point my two year warranty had run out BMW did not want to know. Got it touch with customer service about the problem and the sent out BM back out again. The engineer said it was a faulty battery and put another new one on the bike. All ok next day went to Wales for little run out 240 miles parked bike and decided to leave bike for two weeks to see if I was over the problem. Guess what flat again not even a light on the clocks. Called BM and they don’t want to know what a surprise even though it’s the same fault that was reported before my warranty expired. Has any body got any ideas to the fault? The alternator is charging fine. Can any one help please?
Thanks Mark 07941890892

A mate had the same problem with his 08 adventure.
He called out BMW assist, who told him that...

If you park the bike for long periods WITHOUT the steering lock on, then it WILL flatten the battery.

How true this is, I don't know, but he hasn't has any problems since.

Hi thanks for that the first time it went flat the steering lock was on but the last time I had left it of. Just put the battery back on bike but have left the wiring of for the intercom and zumo of wait and see. As what I guessed BMW customer service have not called me back today as they had promsied.

Put battery back on bike after charging it checked with muti meter it showed 12 volt. I have left of the intercome and Zumo to see if they was draining the battery. Went for a ride done about 80 miles checked battery and it showed 13.3 volts so the alternator had charged it to this level. Is this over charging or is this the norm. My first battery that failed four weeks looks like it had over charged it had gone out of shape and leaked. Checked this morning battery is showing 13 volts so wait and see if it will lose any more.

sounds to me like something's draining the battery while parked. the autocom or zumo would be my first suspects.

i can tell you for certain that the steering lock is innocent of all charges

my 1200 sits for ages and i never use the steering lock.
