Sorry if i'm misreading this but is your original (BMW etc) battery failing or is your replacement Motobatt battery failing?

I only ask because at three years on the original i'm looking at replacing it before it fails and was teed up for a Motobatt....

I too am on the original one....starting to lag on the start-up...feel that one day really soon there will be the talked tick tick tick. Not bad for over 3 and a half on the original. Think the motobatt seems like a good choice.

It's not your misreading it's my confusing post....

I had an original, then bought another (original) which let me down and is getting worse

The fact is I think both failed (too early) due to my bike having a power drain which I need to fix and then I'm going for a new Motobatt, I like the idea of 4 terminals for less clutter.

My fault is not in the original batteries but a power drain my bike is garaged and hooked up to a optimate and like that its good to go on the button, but overnight without the optimate it will be click less

Lead acid batteries dont like being taken down below about 9 volts because that causes a permanent chemical change in the lead sulphate. The Optimate will often recover them but life is reduced. That said I had a gel cell flattened to zero by a caravan tracker device. The Optimate recovered it and the battery went on to give a year's use on a lawn mower being shaken to death.

What about the Ballistic batteries? Not cheap but more powerful less weight and no acid and no sulphating should last longer. Has anyone tried them in UK?

With 4 terminals, if I hard wire my Zumo 660 cable to the other free 2, will the power drain completely, say, after 2 weeks of non-use?

only if you leave the device actually attached to draw power. But you'll need to get an extra set of terminals first, they look like this:

Cheers Stephen! ...(embarrassed to ask): Can I get those from any hardware/Maplins/Halfords etc?

So, the cable-cradle empty (with NO Sat-Nav) should be OK in theory?

-It's been frustrating looking at all the threads and some quoting Garmin reps saying one thing, BMW the other, and then somebody tested for power saying the cradle (with no device) does draw some power when the bike's off etc. It's a little bit hard to choose who to believe...

Well, I've had the battery on a fair while now and I have to say its great. Fires on the dot every time even when it's below freezing. Not ordered the second set of terminals yet, but I will do after xmas... I'm pretty sure it's these ones (not sure if screws are included though).
