ok here is my query - i intend to remove the battery from my 2009 r1200gs over the winter period - shall i encounter any problems when i refit the battery sometime in the spring
Remember to charge the battery every month whilst out the bike.
When you refit it the only thing to do is reset the throttle position sensors, ignition on-twist the throttle right round slowly twice, switch ignition back off, then start as normal.
my location is somewhat different from yours - if you really wan't to risk riding a 2009 GS through snow and ice then you are a braver man than me - not really enjoyable riding through the winter in scotland - found this advice on the net -
Remove the battery and put it on a charger. Store it at a temperature above 32 degrees F and trickle-charge it once a month. If you are able to start and run the bike once a month, you may want to leave the battery in the bike and just disconnect the negative cable end. Run the bike until it is at normal operating temperature. If this is not possible (because it is stored indoors), crank the engine two or three times. -
i don't have power in my garage so i reckon i will remove it as i do not wan't it to deteriorate in a very cold garage over winter
