Anyone got any good recommendations for a Battery upgrade/replacement for a 2017 GSA Triple Black?

The dealers battery tester & also the Authorised Break down guys use the same tester, after multiple break downs a new battery cured bike, but hell on Earth to get them to fit one under warranty at 4 months old
Good luck you’ll need it

Does the Triple Black use a different battery to other WC's?

Andres

You are only jealous because you KTM wallah's don't yet have an official "Triple Orange" :) :)

Honestly though, as a Trible Blick owner, why do people think it "matters", it's only a colour scheme.

It's probably been killed during "weaponisation" :)

Electromagnetic Railgun discharged it over the weekend.

BMW want £159 for a replacement battery.

I've took the knackered one off the bike, and directly fitted an Optimate to it with crocodile clips, seems to be charging now (not going via CanBUS plug in)

However, Halfords sell the Yuasa YTZ14S battery for £100 and I have a Trade Card, so might buy one of those if it doesn't come back to life. Halfords Trade Club price is £ 78.40 inc vat

Note to self : Don't use Railgun so frequently on GSA

Battery is 12 months warranty. Mine is 16 months now.

But warranty is void on deep discharged units anyway. So I need to buy a new one either way.

I bought a Lithium ion one. Never had to plug it in over winter. Ever in fact. Garaged bike, but I'm a big fan. Super light.

That said, the one I bought for the 1290 seems to struggle a little in winter. Zero issues with the GS.

From my recent experience I'd avoid Motobatt, the last 2 I've used failed at the 13 month mark. I thought the first was just bad luck but after the second one failed I'll not be buying another. Went back to the original BMW that still works but needs a little TLC with an Optimate to keep it going. I have a new Exide ready to be swopped in before I go away on the bike in September. (R1200GSA '12' plate).

I can’t recommend li-po batteries enough - had one on my gsa for over a year and it’s great. Amazingly light too. Only one observation - be prepared to pay a lot for a good charger (they need their own special chargers)

question, if you need a special charger to charge it, then how does the bikes own system charge it up, is it just a plug and play? just curious

That’s the question I always ask. How does your bike know it’s a Li-on battery?
