OK dumbest question of the week, but I'd rather look very stupid than bugger my battery. 1100GS has been standing a while (its too hot out here to use it...honest) and the battery needs charging. Is their anything special u need to do to charge BMW Gel battery or is it just remove from bike, attach the leads to charger and turn it on for a few hours.

Once its charged I promise to take it out at least once a week until the temperature drops below 40'C

Cheers

Don`t use a 'standard' charger on a Gel battery....you`ll fry it.

There`s no need to remove it,either....use the accessory socket.

Cheers for that, problem is I haven't got an adaptor and when I do get one what to I attach it to? I am guessing a normal charger will be no good..I will email BMW Dubai and see if they can get me an optimate and an adaptor - I should be visiting within the next few weeks.

If yer bike is going to be standing around a wile - yer best off disconnecting the battery .. it will last longer that way... :rob

If you can start the bike, and run it for a while, that is the best way to charge it.
Disconnect the battery if laid up. Best chance of starting it later.
Is the bike in the heat, or indoors?
Summary - charge by running bike, then disconnect batt and keep in coolish place.

BTW, we go out on Friday for a few hours here in sunny Riyadh. Usually 200kms or so, back home by 1030hrs. Not hard core , I know.
Lastfirday, one guy hit a pothole, nipped the front tyre. Had to pillion himhome, luckily he had a trailer, so we recovered the bike in a few hours - all at +45C. Not my cup of tea.

I will disconnect the battery and try to find optimate (or similar) and get it going again. The temperature is below 40 at the moment, but the humidity has hit the roof, think I prefer the 45's - its dry heat then. The bike is outside, but I will be using it at least once a week when I get the thing going. Cannot wait for the winter.

Cheers

Oximser or Optimate?

Oximiser or Optimate

Which of these to I get. The Oximiser is loads cheaper, does it do the same job?

Jim

I`ve got four Optimates in a nice little row, greeting me with their little green LED`s each time I open the garage.
They`ve done their job admirably,and I recommend them (Optimate 2 and 3)

Never used an Optimiser (or is it Oximiser ?) though....

May be worth Googling, unless someone can enlighten you.
