Over the years i have done this using 3 mm bore silicone tubing,
Having encountered the captive nut escaping or not reaching the thread with added connectors for charging leads etc,
They just stay put and line up,

It's like a few months ago Sue was trying to screw the top on a jar but couldn't engage the threads. I suggested she screw it backwards as if undoing it until she feels or hears the click, and then screw it on.

and that label is at the back of your kecks .... saves you having to sniff them in the half light before donning ...

It does save loads of faffing about.

Whenever I've fitted a battery, I chop a bit off the breather tube for that purpose.
