Well that was quite a dear BMW battery for the 800gs - £139 including fitting and resets. However it's done now. That's the 3rd one on this bike 14000 miles 71/2 years old

Something is wrong!!! You've been stitched up pricewise for the replacement (which you can also fit yourself easily), but 3 batteries in 7 1/2 years....no way unless you have let them run flat regularly and re-charged them over the period (through non-regular use).
Yes - service indicator reset. Battery was ~ £96 before VAT ! I've got through 2 batterys . As you can see bike isn't used much. Only when I want to It's not a necessity....and I'm not bothered about being a 'fairweather' rider ! I've been riding bikes since 1982 so have had all the crap conditions in the past when a bike was all I had !
My front pads are 30% worn after the 7 and 1/2 years and 14000 miles. Rears are 10% worn so not too bothered about a dear battery !
Buy an Optimate/CTEK etc. Connect it continuously every minute that the bike is not running. Once connected, do not disconnect unless you are going to ride the bike.
The intriguing fact is I've got an optimate with the easy false tank plug ! Only plug it in when the battery feels weak though. I'll start plugging it in next year !
Anyway , proabably last battery I buy for this one .. Just seen they're ~ £50 from Motorworks which is a near me !
No time to shop around really this time and service indicator woulf have needed resetting anyway
Indeed ! Although my last bike -CBR600 - the battery lasted 6 years with the same frequency of riding . Only needed an Optimate for the latter 6 months or so.
Not sure how long to keep this bike anyway, but it has been the bike I have kept longest - the XR 1000 looks nice !
