In my experience, the BattleWings seem to take a while to bed in, maybe even 2-300mls, so get a few miles on them then set it all up, grip levels in the wet also seem poor in this initial running in period but they are fine one scuffed up.

Shep

I have Battlewings on my 07 GS and find them OK but don't have the same confidence I had with my 05 bike on Tourances:eek:

Got 450miles on my battlewings now (OEM with bike) and they were fairly crappy in the wet weather today. Should I expect them to get better? Tempted to swap them out for Anakees.

I had Trailwings (OEM) on my 12GS and found them absolutely awful. Changed them for Battlewings and noticed an immediate improvement. However, I think they do take a while to bed in as they didn't feel 100% until about 2,000 miles in. I'd previously been through three sets of BT020s on a Triumph ST and loved them, wet or dry, so I was assuming the Battlewings that 'use the same technology' would be similar - in my experience they're not, but they do get better.

Bought a 4,000 mile GSA recently and it has Anakees that feel better, but the previous owner must have done all 4,000 miles sitting bolt upright because they're squared off to b*ggery and feel it :blast. I'll salvage what mileage I can out of these and think I'll go for more of the same.

They probably don't operate very well with the deep tread. I'll reserve judgement until then. Would rather have the Anakees though which are fantastic out the box albeit fairly shot by 5k miles.

Battlewing feedback

Changed to BWings after first set of TWings and all seemed fine at first. Then went on the annual trip to Garmisch this year with them about 1/4 worn at the off. A good 1/3 of the trip was wet and about 1/2 of that third quite cold at elevation. In these conditions the Bwings started to give uncertain and what I might call 'glassy' feedback. There was a distinct message coming up through the bike that adhesion was becoming marginal and accordingly I was having trouble keeping my confidence up even at a pace that was sufficiently below spirited so as to not expect grip issues. I bled off a couple of psi to generate more heat and rode less smoothly to work the tyres more and it had some effect but when I talked to other riders, mainly on Tourances none reported any grip issues. When at warmer elevations The BWings were more than fine in similarly wet conditions, so it seems, at least to me that they are not so good at certain cold and wet weather combinations. I'm soon due for a new set and will go for Tourances this time.

I understand either Anakees, Battlewings or Tourance.

My 07 GS came with Anakees- fecking terrible tyres.. They were quickly referred to as 'Panikees' they were that bad. They followed every undulation on the road, slipped on any over banding and give me two near death experiences when they let go at both ends on a gentle left hand bend in the rain. I got shot of them PDQ and fitted Battle Wings which are a huge improvement. Might try Tourances next as they were good on my 1150.

My '07 GS came with Battlewings (on spokes) as has been mentioned, they need a longer running in period and, once worked a bit they seem great to me......far better than the Tourance Mk1 I had on the last one ('04 GS).

I accidentally spread ACF50 all over mine recently (a lesson learnt!)and they were rather dodgy for a little while but after a couple of hundred miles of mildly aggressive riding, they are back to good again - have not had to adjust anything to make them work.

It seems that these semi-track /road tyres do need a bit of slightly harder riding or they go a bit 'hard'.

They are far better than the Tour Mk1 off road (tracks) too.

Best road option so far: Conti Road Attack - very good confidence builders.

I wouldn't have thought you should have to play with the suspension to get tyres to do their job?

Mine came with Battlewings. The great advantage of these tyres is you can go "dum-dum-de-dum, dum-de-dum, dum-de-dum" in your helmet, as in the original Star Wars films.

Now, which oil should I use?

Do it :thumb

I always had Tourances on my '04 GS (which I thought were great) but when I swapped to the '06 it came with Battlewings. Felt 'wrong' from the start - harder to turn in and just didn't hold a line as well.

Admittedly they were only on the bike for 500 miles....:augie Had a low speed blow out at work when I rode over a roofing bolt  :mcgun and I just swapped the pair for Anakees - best decision I could've made. Life's too short to have tyres you don't get on with. :bounce1
