I have been beavering away to see if our buying power can be leveraged for the benefit of this list. Now I should explain that I am a Purchasing Manager for a textile and industrial fibre manufacturing company (we make the fibre that is then processed into carbon fibre. No I haven't got any, yet!) so I have been able to persuade one of our key suppliers to offer the same deal as has been offered to the business I work for. The supplier is BSL who distribute power transmission products including the things of interest to us like:
bearings - ball, roller, taper roller, needle roller
bushes - bronze, glacier etc
seals and 'o' rings
chains
sprockets (maybe. These aren't so straight forward. BSL supply industrial whereas Renthal etc are consumer)
belts - 'V', HTD toothed (CCM cam belts anyone)
pulleys - 'V', HTD (CCM again)
adhesives - Loctite etc
oils & greases - full range of Rocol
Now I know that this isn't wheels/tyres/leathers etc because this is an industrial supplier, but it is a start and the savings are very significant. Take this example:
gearbox output shaft roller bearing for my VOR:
this is a SKF NU303ECP
TMUK (importer) price is £31.90+VAT
BSL price is £10.25+VAT
That's more than a two thirds saving and is fairly typical! To replace all the bearings, seals, 'o' rings and bushes on my VOR cost me £80+VAT and would have cost more than £200+VAT with the importer.
Getting this stuff is simplicity itself. Just quote the list account number (122492 - which is a cash or credit/debit card holding account) and all the discount terms will be applied to anything you buy. Pay for your parts with cash or credit/debit card. You can do this at a branch, over the phone or via their website
www.bsl.co.uk . There are branches at most major towns and cities; look in your yellow pages or on the website.
Most of the stuff you need has a manufacturer's part number on it and in the case of bearings I mean SKF, RHP, NSK, Timken etc, not a VOR, KTM, Honda etc. If you can't find it because it's too tattered, take the sample to a BSL trade counter or use the part locater on the website which uses the dimensions of the part to identify it.
I even have a noddy guide to ordering this stuff from the BSL website which even when zipped is too large at 630Kb to post here. If anybody wants it, PM me and I'll email it to you.
There are two bods on here that have used this to good effect and they'll vouch for it; Leatherboy and our own resident superstar racer PhilG take a bow.
