Beeline Moto navigation

Love mine and can't see myself using a 'big box' GPS ever again (other than very specific stuff such as some off road or Outer Mongolia).

Phone battery life is a worry though (just ask Twizzle)..................... ;)

Looks perfect on a midi bike

Does the Beeline rely on 4g when out routing or just when you plot the route and send it to the unit?

Is it 'offline' when actually navigating?

You need data to set/calculate the route initially.

Once on the move data is not required EXCEPT if you miss a turn. If that happens you need data to update/re-route.

Everyone still happy?

I love mine!

It's not for everybody though.

If you are a laid back dude who's got a chilled out approach to your journey and happy to get it wrong occasionally then it is a revelation.

If you are an angst ridden control freak who has to follow a magenta line with missile like precision then it's probably not for you.

.....and then you have Twizzle ;) :D

Sounds ideal

The Beeline device doesn't quite work like that.

It's simply a display for the app that runs on the phone. All the navigation, rerouting and magic happens on the phone and the Beeline device is just a display.

The route etc doesn't get sent to the device, just what it needs to display the picture on the screen.

Beeline Moto II

Just to add, as I missed this in Nov. '23, there is now a Beeline+ app available only in the UK and only iOS at the moment.
Part of it is the new voice commands and of course, the "+" means you must pay for it, monthly or yearly. They say you only need pay for the months you want to use it.

There's something similar fitted to my Scram 411. I've only used it once. Seemed OK.
It navigatates using Google maps, no bad thing.

The updated version 2 looks good, some improvements that appear to make a difference like showing the other roads around. Tempted to buy one and try it, I like the idea of a simple and uncluttered screen.

I bought a Beeline Moto 2 some time ago, as I wanted something smaller for A/B navigation within the city.

It is brilliant.

Yes, it shows parts of the other roads and makes it easier to understand the layout around you.

Last GIF hasn't been added by error:

While traveling/longer routes I am using my XT, but out of curiosity I've used the Beeline on a weekend while traveling along a 200 miles track and works ok.
If you veer from the track it does show you a straight line to the point where it thinks you should rejoin the route (this is common behaviour even on Garmin devices). Just, in those cases, you cannot really see much of where to go. But this goes beyond the scope of this device.

As said, I wanted something to use when I'm about in London, that is quicker and more convenient than the XT. And this is absolutely brilliant. Get to destination, put it in your pocket and forget.

My other intended use was also on my HP2 Sport, for those rare "on the road" outings, and to be used on the pushbike (as above).

The only problem I am having is frequent bluetooth disconnections in built up areas, but to be fair that is my iPhone's fault (I have the same problem with the Airpods).

I real like my Beeline(s) - don’t ask!

Mine are pre the + version, so I don’t have the image of the road layout.

I like them because
  • they are really elegant
  • Cheapish, not a killer if they are swiped
  • They tell you just enough
Downsides?
  • They actually tell you a lot, but you need to tune in to understand what they are telling you
  • I am not a big fan of the app, when you need to alter its suggested route
  • You need to be wide awake when one junction rapidly follows another (think French motorway, when you take a slip road which instantly splits again )
Overall though, I am a fan.

If the Beeline device is becoming more popular, we can maybe see if a separate subsection can be created for it.

Good idea or leave it as it is?

The OP gifted me his beeline which I use on the HD RKS as it’s nice and discrete

It works well and I’ve used it a few times - as stated you need to tune into its messaging!
But it gets you where you need effectively enough
