Having tried one for the first time recently, I have to say I am seriously tempted to change my 1200GSa for one.
My head is saying the GSA is a far more sensible option in the longer term, what with the fuel range, panniers etc, but my heart is saying forget sensible, think about the power, handling and brakes!
Decisions, decisions.

My firend has a K1200S and can't get enough if it, but then he did own an R1 before...:augie

k1300s

try a k1300gt just about to change from a gsa to one

The Devils K series

Ahhh! What a fantastic series of bikes the current K13s are.......until you want to take the short detour over a less than smooth country road, or your out with your mates and you have to wait for them all to catch up every half an hour (!) or its pissing with rain, and you can only use a fraction of the power.......thats when you will come back to the fold!

Been there done it. Best get yerself an old Blackbird/Busa/Gixxer etc AND keep the faithful GS/A

Always best to have your cake and eat it i find!

Tried a K1300GT when mine was last in for service, cracking engine but not for me. However, a K1300S would be right up my street if I didn't go camping, touring or spend most of my time two up. I'll stick with my GSA :)

Some valid points, but got to disagree about the less than smooth country roads bit - my K1200S simply glided along bumpy country roads; the Duolever suspension may lack feedback at highspeed on smooth twisty roads, but allows devastatingly quick progress on backroads - the GS is nowhere near as quick or confidence inspiring in my experience, although it is more relaxing and comfortable :thumb

I changed my 1200Gs for a K1300R in August and love the new bike:D Had 2 GS over 4 years having done 35K miles. Would love to have both but so far I have not regreted the change. I am going to the French Alps next June 2-up so we will see then whether I made the right choice:nenau.

The only down sides so far are the fuel consumption and the tyre wear but with another 70bhp I can't complain::rolleyes:

Slight loss of luggage space but I still use my 52L topbox and I have 35L Givi panniers:thumb

But the acceleration and the quick shifter..............:bounce1:clap:bow

k 1300 gt

Just a quick reply changed from an 09 gsa to an 09 1300 gt best thing i have done, just as good on back roads (esa) just as good if not better on fuel and sooooo much smoother, roll on some good weather.

I too have lusted over the 1300R - for its looks and performance, but not sure how longterm a naked bike would be for longer days and touring. Dave Hendy - and others who have them - what's your experience? Have you fitted a larger screen??

i think its gonna be my 2010 bike,, the downside i can see is the tyre usage compared to my 1150,,,
but ill live with it i think

sorry to say, never had the gs, just the rt, never really got on with the rt, switched to the k1200gt 08 plate, so most things i hope sorted on the bike,

I would have loved to have the k1200s, but it was not practical with the two up stuff i do, and the mrs would have hated the ride and not having some protection on the bike, so hence the decision to get the gt.

had it almost a year now, just done 6k on the bike and really love it, I normally get itchy feet about a bike change this time of year, and more than happy with the bike.

as peeps say, its up to you,:)

My bike came with the slightly larger BMW screen which is OK but the wind blast above 90mph can get a bit much:eek: But this was part of the reason I went for the R over the S as I thought it would help protect my licence. I had both bikes for the day before changing from my GS and liked them both in different ways. My wife found either acceptable although not as comfortable as the GS (what is). So far 250 miles is the most I have done in one day which was fine. Try one and see what you think:thumb

There's a very nice K1200R for sale in the non-GS bikes section for an extremely reasonable £4,995 (including BMW warranty)....

ahem.....:augie

I ride a K12S

Longest day = 840 miles and that was hard...
But I guess I use it very week (not every day!) on all roads and all conditions

Not an experienced rider by any reckoning (this is my first bike!) but I have loved everywhere I have been on this - i don't ride balls out and it's very comfy for me and my SO

Power is incredible and ride is very smooth...

As a mate said to me when I bought it - it all comes down to how much control you have over your right hand...

I have the BMW peanut panniers and a 52L topbox (plus a BM tankbag - 24L I think) and I couldn't fill it for a 3.5k trip round Euroland this summer...

I have done 9k miles since March and have loved it...
Tried a K13S when mine was in for a service... the indicators were weird (i.e. normal)... and the gearchange was bliss (all issues resolved) but would I want one... NO - want to keep my bumble bee

Well, I've decided to go for the K1300S. Havn't got it yet due to this blxxdy weather!
Only time will tell if its the right choice or not.
Need to look for a tankbag & luugage now!
