After reading recommendations on this site, bought a Belkin SportCommand off eBay. I attached the Velcro to the inside of the n/s handguard - brilliant solution and I’m grateful to those who came up with the idea.

However I now find that the iPod (Classic) controls have no effect. The iPod only the responds to the SportCommand – it’s as thought the iPod click wheel isn’t even there. I’ve tried restoring from iTunes (several times), re-booting (can’t because the keys aren’t recognised), draining the battery, etc. all to no avail.

And I thought Microsoft was crap…

Any suggestions?

Have you tried resetting the ipod itself?

(Taken from here)

How to unfreeze or reset an iPod Classic

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which may take about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Notes:

* If you are having problems resetting the iPod, go ahead and set it on a flat surface. Then make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also be sure that you are pressing the Menu button towards the outside of the click wheel, not near the center.
* If the above mentioned steps do not work, then you can try connecting your iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect the iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn’t set to go to sleep.

I found the latter suggestion of plugging it into a power adapter (charger) worked when mine locked up once.

Hope this helps.

do you mean with the belkin still set up on the Ipod, or with the belkin totally unconnected ?

My sport command does not effect the front panel controls though usually I have the lock on as the iPod is buried in a case in a bag and I don't want any involuntary volume increase or song changing in mid-flight.

If my iPod went beyond 75% volume with my UE monitors in I think I'd perforate my ear drums :yikes

iPod has miraculously come back to life. It seems that I have dodgy control wheel thingy on the iPod - nothing to do with the Belkin - just a coincidence that the fault developed after using the SportCommand. So I recommend that you get one, but don't call me if your Classic suddenly changes from "classic" to "scrap"!
