Bertha lives

Cheers Uncle Rob.

Got home cold with a monster headache and went straight to bed last night.

Never before have I wanted to set fire to a bike quite so badly :D:D:D

If anyone wants a brand new airhead, give me a shout in about 2 years, I should have replaced just about every part of it by then :blast

I'm starting to think that I should rename her Trigger, after Triggers broom from only fools and horses :thumb2

No, she has to stay as Bertha. I'm going to nick "Trigger" for the old Airhead I've been working on for last 4 years. I think I've spent thousands and replaced every fecking piece from front tyre to back tyre and every single piece inbetween.

Trigger, also the name of Ernie's horse in "Ernie, the fastest Milkman in the West".:)

Also the name of a cowboys horse but I can't remember his name.

Ironic that a thread regarding Bertha should turn into a discussion about dead horses :D:D:D:D

Oh dear

Bertha doesn't live:blast little bro flip is now at the end of his tether. He's replaced the stater and pick up and he's getting no charge at all. Could it be something to do with the electronic ignition we've fitted. Any help would be grateful.

Did the diode board check out okay? My old R100RT burnt out a diode, which I replaced rather than buying another board.

It's ok Brov, I think it's working now :thumb

Replaced the stator and rotor and the red light of doom wouldn't go out.

Anyway, I recharged the battery and started the old girl up and just left her running, suddenly the light extiguishes.

At tickover I get 11.8v at the battery and when I rev it up it goes to 12.4v at around 2k revs and 12.8v when I rev it harder. I assume this means that it is charging :nenau

Fookin airheads!!!

Just need someone to rebuild the gearbox for me now and replace the leaky rear gasket, and sort out the bushing in the lower ohlins shock mount and then I think I may have a useable bike :blast:blast:blast

I just hope dad is watching this and appreciates the dedication!!:D:D

Only had one lighter/petrol cap moment today, so things are getting better I think (although I may have held back because I didn't want to burn the trusty reliable Transalp :D:D:D).

Hey Flip, Voltage sounds a bit low to me. I'd have thought you should be getting 13-14 volts at optimum reves (depending on which voltage reg you have) Give Rob a call, he'll know what you should expect.

(edit) I just had a look in the Haynes. It says (Quote) "Start the engine. At just over idle speed a reading of 13.55-14.25 volts should be obtained. Stop the engine. If a significantly lower reading is obtained check the Alternator"

Guess that's where you go next.

Have you checked the voltage regulator? Swap it for the one on Si's RT to see if there's any difference (remembering that the silver alli one and the red top one will be similar, and the black top one is the Hi output Police spec one).

Val.

I thought it was low, but I'm banking on it improving as the new rotor beds in.
The battery is on charge now also because it was seriously dead.

The voltage regulator is the last thing left in the chain, but my money is all spent up for this month, we'll see what happens with a decent battery.
