Just bought a 1200GS and I am shopping around for fully comprehensive Insurance. Not sure who is the best at the moment so any advice would be great.

Insurance

Try BMW motorad's own insurance. It may cost slightly more but you are covered for everything, unlike some of the cheaper quotes you will find from the popular ones, who bulk up the execes and charge extra for all the extras.

Hi, ive alway used bmw s own insurance. found to be best price and no problems

SWINTONs are good!

I've not had to claim, but I found Swintons (who are the broker for NIG insurance - same as BMW), they quoted £209 for my R12GS (+£250 excess), it suprised me that to have £0 excess pushed the price to £224! This was £150 cheaper than next best quote (Carole Nash), £250 cheaper than Bennets and £500 cheaper than BMW's own.

I was pretty chuffed with this, as this was my first big bike (as passed my test and went from a CG125 to the beast). I also had to change from my estimated 5K miles to 12-16K, for £0!!!

Btw, i'm 39, and live in Hertfordshire and commute to London.

Was a bit dissapointed to see that this good value for only for the GS, the K1300S was a no-quote, the K1200S was £1700!!! Feck.

BMW Motorrad policy for me

Age 49, riding R1200GSA, living in an SN postcode, 9 years NCD with a £250 excess costs me £139 fully comp :thumb2

TRY THE AA

54 PLATE GS GARAGED WITH A LOCK £250 EXCESS £99 FULLY COMP, 3 YEARS NO CLAIMS WITH ACCIDENT IN LAST 5 YEARS, 40 YEARS OLD, WAS WELL HAPPY AS OLD BROKER QUOTED £275 WHICH WAS MORE THAN LAST YEAR, SPEND SOME TIME ON THE NET AND FREE PHONE NUMBERS, YOU MAY GET A BETTER DEAL TOWARDS THE END OF THE MONTH AS THEY HAVE TARGETS TO HIT ( SORRY ABOUT SHOUTING FORGOT CAPS LOCK ON ):beerjug:

WICKED BIKES............ my 1200gs 04 garaged 2years no claims came in at £260 full comp, with excess an unbelievable £100 bennetts was £380 with £400 excess where do they get there figure from:confused: i'm 50 and in london

My 06 GSA is insured with 'Direct Choice', fully comp 150 quid. with £150 excess.

I've found it impossible to better that price

You're right Matlockscot, (well I phoned them actually), funny the other BMW car people new nothing about the bike side??

I got BMW quote of fully comp at £231 with £250 excess. Compared to Carol Nash £298 (£500 ex) and Bennetts £189 (£750 ex :eek) Billski is right in what he says. BM covers up to £1000 on leathers etc which sounds quite worthwhile?

I've got three bikes on one Ebike.com policy for £227.

As well as the F800 and K1200RS it even includes my Jap only NSR250, and I declared all the mods. You can select the luggage cover, the accessories covera dn it covers you for overseas too.

I'm 39, have them all garaged and leave in a leafy street in a small Oxfordshire village. No crashes or claims in over 5 years...

Guys

Thanks for all the input, went with BMW at the end of the day. Slightly more expensive but the fine print was more rounded with fewer exclusions and good EU cover as well as Legal.

Like a GS peace of mind.

Just renewed my 07 1200GSA with BMW @ £201 + £250 excess with 6yrs protected no claims. The renewal quote from Carole Nash came in at £221 + £300 excess. BMW also covered gear up to £1000 and all the accessories.

Just had my new policy through. Ive only had the panzer for a couple of months, prior to owning it I had a Triumph 955i Speed triple which used to cost me £230 fully comp 15+ years no claims living in rural staffs. Swapped to the Panzer and its now gone up to £345.79!!!!! Apparently, according to Carol Nash when I phoned them last night, its in a higher insurance group to the Triple because its quite often stolen and is a powerful bike.:nenau

Obviously, I quickly looked out of the window to see if I could see the tree that Carol Nash thought I'd just fallen out of.

So, a few phone calls will be needed this morning I think :thumb
