Done a search guys but can't find an answer... any recomendations for good maps covering Northern Spain & Portugal incl Picos/Pyrennes?

Ideally with campsites, Scenic routes etc marked.

Cheers... :thumb:thumb

Michelin do a good Tourist and Motoring atlas of Spain and Portugal. Scenic roads and camping are shown.

If you mean paper maps (which I hope you will take anyway) you really cannot go far wrong with Michelin maps of assorted scales, just as the others have suggested.

Michelin also do some very good hotel and campsite guides, too.

This fellow is very helpful when it comes to supplying maps and half decent books:

http://www.mapsman.com/ - There is a link on his home page to Spain, left hand side 'Where are you going'

He also sells the very good (but basic) ADAC maps, which are great for motorcycle routes. I use them a lot.

That is cracking good link Wappers !!:thumb2 ( fair prices too)

I did contact the Mapsman fellow suggesting he subscribe to a small advert on UKGSer forum. I'm sure it would drum him up some trade.

Spain, not a country I know well once over the Pyrenees and outside of the big cities, is next on my 'All the routes you will ever need' list of 'To-do's' . I am busy digging up assorted websites with suggestions.... but keep getting sidetracked on the surfing. A distraction to read about the Alhambra is the latest way to waste 10 minutes....

Here's what I have in mind.... The Alpujarras.

An easy name to remember, too.... Alps' pyjamas....

My hopes where raised when I saw the mapman listed the German "motorrad touren general karte maps, however my hopes where dashed when he doesn't have the 2 most elusive maps I'm after, which are the Austrian Sud Tyrol and the No18 of the German maps which covers the black forest and bodensee

If I was considering buying any Michelin maps for summer 2012 I'd check the publishing dates of the various maps, as I've found in the past that Michelin tend to publish updated maps sometime around feb/mar each year.
For example some of the roads around Lisbon that have been upgraded in recent years arn't on some maps. So it may pay to wait until the latest editions are released

Don't know about Portugal, but for Northern Spain - the Michelin maps are :

Regional series - 571 Galicia (top West bit above Portugal)
572 Asturias (Covers the Picos De Europa)
573 Navarra (Santander, Bilbao, Pamplona)
575 Castilla y Leon (North coast down to & including Madrid)
These are at 1/400 000 or 1cm to 4km

With campsites on (although all you get is a tent symbol) but with more detail of relief, good views, churches, abbeys etc.

Zoom series - 141 - Cote de Galicia
142 - Asturias Costa Verde
143 - Cantabria
144 - Pyrenees Occidentales ( Bilbao, Pamplona)
145 - Pyrenees Centrales

These scale @ 1/150 000 or 1cm to 1.5km

If you intend to spend some time exploring I'd recommend the Zoom series

You should be able to order them all from Amazon :thumb2

For me as a true backroads merchant I find Michelin maps do not go into enough detail....nice for the green wiggly bits but they do not show much in the way of small roads (for me).

Without buying localised maps a good series is Freytag & Berndt maps which have a scale of 1:500 000 against Michelin's 1:1000 000. They also have green scenic routes. Try Standfords for a good selection.

Such is my afflication with avoidance that it takes me hours to say plot a 300 mile day in France, using maps and Mapsource. A bit of a challenge but I enjoy it.
