What you’re looking at - I think - is this ‘mount’ pictured here:

This should give you some idea what you’re trying to release, reading in conjunction with Wapping’s post #17 above 👍

HOT TIP - if you do decide to remove the mount, I suggest you don’t cut any wires but, instead, follow them through to the plug which inserts into the bike’s 12V power supply which you can use for your next device. IIRC, I think it’s located under the right-hand side of the fairing behind the forks.
 
Well, every day is a school day, as I didn't know that a Nav 5/6 would not fit into the old 4-button mount. If the 5th digit of the part number printed on the back is an 8 (e.g. 77528) then it is a Nav 5 or 6. Since the Nav 5 was contemporary with the introduction of the Multi-controller - aka Wonderwheel - the 4-button mount would have become obsolete.
