Help, my R80ST keeps spilling oil through the bevel drive vent. I have checked and replaced the oil-vent to the gear-box (as had been suggested previously) and drained and re-filled the gearbox, shaft & bevel drive oil with GL5 a number of times now....is it serious? anyone in/near london can fix this (I spoke with Bob Porecha, but he's busy for the next 10 weeks & Neil doesn't have a certain special tool?).

Any help appreciated!:thumb

Thanks,

Jonathan.

, but doesnt have the required tool (I assume for the 4 bevel bolts at the shaft...).

thanks anyhow :thumb

All that needs is a ring spanner. The "special" tool is for the bevel input . And i have got one but haven't a clue where it is as i've not had to use it for 10 years :D

Airhead servicing, please help

Hmmmmm, after months of waiting I was finally given an appointment with Mr. Porecha for this morning. Even took a couple of hours off work to be able to drop the ST off at a suitable time for Bob...waited for over an hour in front of the workshop, left a few phone messages, no one there?!

I'd really like to get the little ST serviced and the puking oil out the bevel vent issue sorted - she deserved it really!

Where's a good and reliable place in or near London?

Thanks for your help.

Jonathan

Have you tried MotoScot (of this parish) near Luton or a bit further North, Phil Hawksley in Leicester (Boxerman and BM Riders). Both these gentlemen have an extensive range of OE tools. Both have my vote, perhaps Phil, whose speciality is Airheads would be a good place to start.

The st and g/s bevel boxes are 3 stud units the standard bevel boxes on those eBay links are 4 stud.

What's wrong with the bevel box? Is it the breather on top of the bevel causing the problem?

dont be offended by this but you arnt putting tooooo much oil in are yer
I did once :blast

or maybe the seal from the shaft oilway is leaking into the box
could you make up a vent that vents higher up the frame - I think its only a pushfit fit
HTHY :thumb2

Nick, thank you for the airhead service links - will give them a call.

Kenny, yes had contemplated this approach before, but I'm not sure it will solve the issue - the oil must come from somewhere as the bevel keeps filling up?!

Rob, bevel breather chucks out oil every now and then as it seems to be filling-up over the 350mm from somewhere...have drained an refilled the bevel, shaft and box a few times, it's ok for a while then starts again? Someone mentioned output shaft seal previously?

Thanks,

J

Have you checked the gearbox level recently to see if it's dropping? Or is so full of water it has an oil / water mix that it is effectively overfull?

Does the oil overflow out of the bevel vent shortly after the oil changes, or some time after?

My old 100GS started doing that when the oil seal in the gearbox failed and the oil just made it's way down to the bevel box - overfill and spurt it out  This was on a paralever though :D

It is obviously a catostrophic major problem, and the bike will soon implode, so the best I can do is offer you £100 for it, to save you the heartache of further problems, what else can a fellow ST owner do in such circumstances.

it's Ok you don't need to thank me, I am just trying to help a fellow out.:D

Thanks Kev, but I cannot pass it on to you - you will only fettle with it and make it into a G/S lookalike or something.... or have it crashed into on your road!

Did now get hold of Mr Porecha and re-arranged for next week - so fingers crossed! :D
