Went to a party in the Springfield Hotel in Leixlip on Saturday with Racetruck and Warlock.
We checked in at reception and took our bags upstairs and locked them in our room about 3.30pm.
We went down for something to eat and a few bottles of wine with Racetruck & his family.
Came back to our room about 6.30pm and went straight to bed for a quick kip before the party started.
Got up at 8pm had a shower then my better half went to check her mobile phone messages - MISSING
- Looked for my Zumo 550 SatNav - MISSING
- Looked for my Nikon Digital Camera - MISSING.
Examined the door and someone had jemmied it open with a screwdriver while we were in having a meal:spitfire:spitfire:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun.
The Gardai are going to look at the CCTV footage and try to identify the culprit.
We only put our stuff in the room for safety:blast:blast

PS
The hotel was lovely, the staff were great, the food was excellent (especially the chips), the party was terrific:bow:bow

PPS
If you are offered a cheap Garmin Zumo, Sony Ericsson V630i and Nikon S7C in the Dublin area please make arrangements to meet the vendor in a secluded spot and post the details on the board - we could all meet up and admire each other's baseball bats, hurley sticks and iron bars.........................:augie

Beware of Thieves **UPDATE**

The Gardai:clap:clap have arrested the 'fellow;) ' who broke into our room.
They searched his house but he had already got rid of our stuff:blast

Still - We feel better now - that he was caught and will be brought in front of a court.

Aidan & Mandy - thanks for your words of support:aidan

Sorry to hear of the theft.

Out of curiosity Phil, how will you replace the items, Hotel cough up? House insurance.......

The Hotel's insurance company said that there was no negligence on the part of the hotel :confused:as they had CCTV, electric doorlocks, security man who patrols the carpark and the corridors, plus staff on duty milling about so they wouldn't pay out.:tears
Trying to claim on our travel insurance - have been turning the place upside down to find receipts etc............ Some insurances only pay up to £250 for single items:eek............ my fingers are crossed.:nenau

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
Does anyone watch the Real Hustle ?
They cleared out a hotel room in one episode, you can catch it on youtube

**UPDATE** Insurance paid out

:D Got a cheque yesterday from the insurance company.:D

Had to pay £40-00 excess which I feel is fair.

So where do I buy another Zumo 550 from?

Can I get any discount as I already have the Mapsource/City Navigator Europe NT disc and codes for version 9?

Where is the best place to buy a Canon G9?

I've always found GPS Warehouse to be good value - http://www.gpsw.co.uk/index.html

Jockser,

Much appreciated £293-50 for a G9 delivered from Amazon seems quite a good deal.

Regards

Phil

Gents thank you.:aidan

:clap:clap£370-00 delivered excellent value:clap:clap

At the time I felt the Zumo was worth the £500-00 I paid initially.

(Jockser - Or just under £300 without the VAT Good value it has to be said )

Shame I have to pay VAT:thedummy

when i first read this i thought;
that sucks - but at least being in a decent hotel they'll cough up.....

i'm p1ssed off they didn't and ( imo) should've!

though i suppose,
a happy ending is a happy ending - but still...Grrrr!

Alls well that ends well

I received a letter from An Garda Siochana today letting me know that the bloke that broke into our hotel room pleaded guilty on the 29th August and received a four month prison sentence:clap..........suspended for two years:tears.
The letter goes on to say that he is currently in prison serving a nine month sentence for an unrelated matter:D
I'm glad they let me know - I can now put the unfortunate incident to rest.

Give him time, loads a time. Being realistic what is the chance of him not doing anything for 2 years after he gets out after 9 month stint. i'd watch the space you may get your chance to see him banged up for it yet. :D
Then we'll all go down to mountjoy and sing "born free" over the wall.
