You Lucky Lucky Bugger !!
IIRC they are a straight swap. :thumb2

It meansyou can run proper lights and heated grips without fretting about battery drain below 60 mph

IF you find you don't want it :augie please let me know :thumb

That seems to be the bees knees, but how much do you gain over:

http://www.motorworks.co.uk/bmw/products/product.php?f=b&bke=bmw&q=ela44410&x=39&y=9

apart from a £234 lighter wallet as the 400 watt conversion recommends fitting an ELA44410

400 v 280 watts according to: http://www.buchanan1.net/charge.shtml

http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/trbleshootALT.htm

and some usefull info as well: http://www.thunderchild-design.com/diodeinstall.html

The trouble is that the Emerald Isle alternator plus the regulator, gets to be a lot of dosh, so if you are going to get in that deep, would it not be better to go down Lilith's road and get Enduralast - £335 plus post pus taxes.

In summary I think. The standard system is ok if you don't ride a mobile Christmas tree / always have heated clothing on.

Police spec VR charges the battery quicker as it's set to approx 14.5v versus 13.8.

You can spend lots, and not gain much, if you don't need the extra power.

Personally, the idea of the brushless set up sounds better mechanically / electrically to me.

If I was going to be riding the 100GS I probably wouldn't bother. But considering the fact that SWMBO rode her 650gs 2700 miles to the Alps and back with the heated grips on most of the time. Plus she'll be wanting extra lighting, I think an upgrade would be a good thing.

Having just read Snowbums comparison test, I'll be going for the Enduralast too as it gives out more power at lower revs, but also because it is a more up to date design.

Dopes anyone know if they have a UK distributer?

Ebay
I think I might go the Enduralast route as well in the new year. I wonder if we can get a discount if a few of us put in an order together?

edit: I've asked the question. Waiting for a reply.
