Hopefully it's just a teething issue and you'll come to love and trust the bike. I know what you mean about the hex heads...they were less sophisticated but had far fewer issues largely because of that. Decent build quality and reliability, as were earlier air heads. Never once worried about reliability on my R100RT or R65...they just went on and on and were easy to work on and fettle every now and again. I carried a few spares on tours with the RT as main gripe with it, was it ate through front wheelbearings at the rate of one every year or two and for some reason munched spark plugs every 4 to 5K miles. I racked up about 44K miles on that bike with very few issues otherwise. No consolation I know, but My 1200GSA and RS have both been very reliable. They have their issues like most bikes these days and the odd Friday bike does get through (a mate got shot of his last LC because it was constantly having issues but he's now got a 1200RS and is delighted with it).
New bikes aren’t all bad, just a lot of save the planet bullshit bolted on. Just need to recalibrate brain and accept shit water based paint
