All the jap bikes I have and used I have no problems with either the engines gearboxes etc and all have been 100% reliable

I'm genuinely delighted for you and you must sleep soundly at night in that knowledge. Now, this is the 1200 technical section so if you haven't got anything helpful to post, please don't bother.

And I have a 17 year old suzuki TL1000S that has covered 74.000 miles since I bought it in 1998, I still love riding that it takes some maintenance the same as the gsa does, doesn't make it any superior,

I can't really see why you are still posting in here if you hate them do much, fack off to a superior jap bike forum if you think they are so perfect.

So you never had a Honda VFR with a knackered voltage regulator and overheated alternator wires. A VFR with rusted through downpipes, a stuck on front secondary master cylinder? A Suzuki SV1000S with wrong sized main bearings from new, causing an engine knock at idle ? and paint flaking off the bodywork ?

A Yamaha Fazer 1000 with flaking engine paint or a sticking EXUP valve ?

Just a few examples that I have experienced on Jap bikes and I am sure that there are many many more documented examples of other common faults on many different marques of bike.

I don't bother putting anything into the technical section and there is not enough pages to put in all the faults and poor quality of the build and over priced parts, cannot see why the cars are very reliable and the finish is to a high quality but the bikes are not

For every 1200 that has attracted more than its fair share of problems - there several which have been faultless.

For every lottery-winner - there are several who have won shag-all.

Usually the "winners" don't see the need to advertise it.........

So - it is quite easy to form the opinion that they are "unreliable" bikes.

I've had 10yrs of 1200GSA ownership (2 bikes) over 50,000 miles. Total faults (on 2006 bike) - were one FPC, and one EWS ring. I'd be hard-pushed to support the "unreliable" bike campaign.

And all these faults and expensive parts have happened to you (or are you regurgitating other people's tales of woes?)

I have been riding dealer serviced Beemers since 1992 and they have been excellent (repairs wise). Some of my bikes have known weaknesses, BMW generally work to resolve/eliminate these as the model progresses. Buying a run out model (ie fully sorted) Hexhead made sense. I think it's all down to sensible, responsible ownership.

We hear mostly the bad news on this forum but there are MANY happy owners you don't hear from.

BMW's are over priced and the build quality is S**t I will never buy another one again

So this is a lie then  http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/410703-100k-and-still-going-well

So when are you selling the GS you've got or have you brought jap unblemishable, perfect, never break down replacement :loopy

Honda of course are well known for low fuel consumption (1000cc Very Barrow) and never ever have any cam or valve system problems. The exhausts don't rot under the fairing (CBR600) and the engine doesn't have to come out (almost) for major servicing (VFR750/800).

VFRs require the valve shims to be checked in order to maintain warranty. But the check alone costs £500 (probably a lot more these days) and any that need retiming are on top in terms of parts and additional labour. When I looked the 800 was to be done every 16K miles which would be annually at my mileage.
