Over the winter i've been using Hein Gericke bike cleaner as it's cheaper than muc off, however it seems to leave a whiteish residue on black surfaces. The black gearbox casing in particular. I make sure it gets well washed off with plenty of water but it does'nt seem to make any difference, not sure if it's getting any worse though.
Anybody else had similar problems?

I use Muc-off, have done for years, and get this on the black engine casings, not only on the GS, but on the previous K100, with an all black engine. I have never had it develop any further. As far as I a concerned, its nowt to worry about. To get rid of it/cover it up, I suggest WD40 sprayed on the cases. Again, done this for years without problems. The cases look nice and clean and shiny for a while, but even when it washes off, if riding in rain, the cases only look merely dull, rather than the white bloom coming back.

Or you could try the tip I picked up on these hallowed pages the other day of using shoe polish on eth cases. I tried it, and it works a treat.

Mind at rest

Boot polish eh? I'll remember that if I decide to sell her :D
Cheers Phil nice to know it's common and not a problem :thumb

I used to get that on my Tiger after using muc off, I used Back-to-Black car cleaner from Halfords. It’s a silicon based substance which brings the engine back up nice and black without making it look too shiny.

I use cockpit cleaner (silicon), just do'nt use one with the air freshner smell, it'll smell like a cheap mini cab for days otherwise.
