Does anyone use a bike cover while touring.

I'm thinking that a cover over the bike while outside hotels and on camp sites would go towards putting people off messing with the bike.

I've seen Rushy using one and they also seem popular in the US, wondered if anyone else did :)

Wouldn't it be just more (unnecessary) stuff to carry Kevin? TBH I wouldn't bother.

Never bothered, and never had a problem.

One more bit of wet kit to try and pack and keep away from the rest of the kit you'd like to keep dry, or it'll blow off the back of the bike.

I do. I carry a lightweight one that has its own pack-sack. It can be strapped on the outside of your luggage and covers the bike with everything still attached.

I got mine from www.dbcovers.co.uk

Ignore Clive, the cover is strapped to my top-box here.....

Kev,

You've seen mine , it not a whole cover just covers the top half.

I thought they were well daft when some guys camped next to me with them in the US. But they do keep prying eyes away and the rain off tank bags and seats overnight. I was convinced enough to get one later on in my trip.

When touring with Louise we sometimes leave loads of stuff on the bike, tank bag, clothing ( all locked on in some way) and then throw the cover over the bike to stop people messing.

We did a Scotland trip a few yrs back and it rained for most of a couple of days , whenever we got off the bike to do some sightseeing we didnt have to carry around wet stuff and we didnt have to try to stuff wet jackets inside topbox/panniers alongside dry stuff.

You have seen mine on but it packs down into a pouch about the size of an A5 envelope only bulkier . I have the larger size ( although it still doesnt cover the whole bike, certainly not panniers but it covers the top case and everything down to foot peg level) but you can get a smaller one that act a bit like the old tonneau cover on british sports cars. Eitther one can be slipped on the bike in seconds without worrying about hot pipes or cans.

People take the piss but stuff 'em , I find it useful:P

I am going to the US in less than 3 weeks, let me know if you want one and I'll bring it back:thumb

.......always a good idea this- especially for a Beemer that has a few toys on it... I have taken a cover on day trips that I know I'm parking the bike for several hours in the street- certainly over night and especially if you are touring. I always cargo net it after packing everything-if imakes you enjoy your day out or peace of mind over night then great. It will not stop the thief or vandal but generally it is an effective deterrent......

Buy one of those fake Turds and put it on the seat believe me no one will go near your bike:D

I bought one... Tiny top-half cover out of silver nylon... Didn't think I'd use it all that much, but I use it all the time.

Whenever it's going to rain, or I'm parked up in an unsecured area.

It's no trouble to carry, takes up the space of sweater.

Potential thieves can scope out your bike pretending appreciation when it's all open... Nothing to see when it's under a cover... And if it is in a secure place, keeps the water off of stuff you can then leave on it...
