Bike cut out on me

Intermittent failing and cut out = failing FPC IMO.
Do a search on Fuel Pump Controller

A couple of questions - have you had the bike from new? No
Do you KNOW what re-calls it has had done? BMW dealer says the FPC has been upgraded from the older ones so i take it had a recall.

Get it into your BMW dealer
Ring antennae - liable to fail
FPC - will fail
Braided Brake hoses replacement recall

Your next problem will be a battery failure so change it now.

New FPC controler ordered tonight, nobody in the workshop knew what one was, guy on parts counter had to ask 3 mechanics what one was as he could not find it on the computer, apperently its called an electronic pump module. FPC must just be the laymans terms for it lol

Hope they didn't order you a new pump instead of the controller. Can't believe a dealer wouldn't know what one was......

Stupid thing was, i was looking at the drawing on the computer telling him which part it was and how much it should approx be.
We have to pay upfront over here for parts that are ordered so I think a new pump would be slightly more than £75, so in the end I knew what it was.

The dealer over here does not just do BMW they also do, audi, porche, smart, mercedies, suzuki, astin martin, rolls, bently, etc etc etc.

Many bikes here on the island do very few miles, The 1150 in the pic on my avitar is a 2003 model with only just over 8k on th clock, and i did 3.5k of those on the trip I was on when my bike had a problem and he leant me it.
There was a 2008 GSA in the local paper for £6995 the other night with only 9k on the clock. So things like FPC and final drives and the other common faults are alien to alot of the mechanics over here.
Plus aswell alot of the bikes over here are serviced in the uk, as its alot cheaper and also an excuse to get off the island.

I do have the alarm fob on the keyring even though the alarm does not work lol,
I Have got a good few months before the trip away in august so plenty miles to see what is going on. Guernsey is not a big place so easy to get home.
The bike always starts first time everytime so no worries on that front (yet).

Guernsey! arr happy memories i have of being a 14 year old riding around on A kawasaki 90 at 60mph with the maximum speed limit of 35 if my memory is correct. Then at 16 jumping onto a Suzuki GT250 (couldn't afford an X7 like my mates) and bombing around at .... well fast enough. Are the laws still the same?

Cannot recall the exact cc's you are allowed to have now but

14 years = 50cc bike or scooter
16 years= 100cc
17 years = 125cc on l plates but if you pass your test then anything you like.
18+ years ride anything you like on L plates, seen a few hyabusa's with L plates recently.

All seems a waste to me as many many of them never pass their test and NEVER go off island with them to get a little more freedom.
35mph is the max yes, I did do a year off the road and a £500 fine 5 years ago for doing 89mph up L'an Cresse. Then had to take my car test again to get both bike and car licence back.

Left in 1979 to join the army and rarely come back, live outside Southampton now so not far away. Use to love going up the Val de Terse (please forgive the spelling) such great corners. Got done at 14 for doing wheelies up the grange after coming out of school (this will read very stange to some people i know) went to court and the judge gave me 14 days or £14.00 fine. My poor Dad thought i was going to take the 14 days as i didnt answer straight away because i was annoyed that the policeman had told the judge i was out of control of my bike - How dare he lol.

Do you get off the island with that bike to stretch its legs much? if you ever need a stopover in Southampton let me know
