Strange thing happened on the way to work this morning. I was getting some 'air' over some sleeping policemen when the bike just cut out. It was as though I'd turned the engine off. The dash gradually shut down - and the alarm self armed.

I switched it off then on again and all is fine.

Anybody else had a similar episode??

if the key is loaded with the alarm fob and other keys, it may have turned off? others with loaded key rings have reported this issue. I ride mine with only the bike key in the ignition and nothing else.

did you check the battery terminals to see if they loose?

if you do find out, let us know.

I always used to get odd episodes when I was humping.

Thankfully, I'm too old for that sort of thing now! Even if my back would let me.

Cracker!!!!!!!!!:dabone

mine just went dead once when i was in the right hand lane on the A40 western ave approaching greenford at about 60 mph

after i managed to work my way over to a safe place to stop the key was in the off position

and as motozen mentioned earlier i had the alarm fob and about 5 keys on the same key ring, so with a small amount of movement of the keys the ignition key turned itself off so now i just have the one key

i was very lucky with the flow of traffic that day but im sure it could have been alot worse

Automatic fuel injection cut out ?

If its set up anything like a car, this could be the answer. Most cars have some sort of sensitive impact motion thingy in the boot which cuts the FI/fuel/pump that needs re-setting after a shunt.

I ride with the alarm fob + the BMW keyfob. I suppose it could have been this that did it. Don't think the battery terminals are loose as I've been riding over bumps on the way home without similar effects.

Hopefully just a one off.

Naughty, naughty.

The speed limit on that piece of road is 50 ;) . I know, 'cause I live near Target rdb.

I'd go along with the keyfob theory but for this. Weird.
Hopefully just a one off, you know what computers are like.

The ignition lock doesn't seem to have a very positive ON position ... I reckon it's very possible the weight of extra keys turned the ignition key.

i know what the speed limit on that piece of the A40 is as i live near the white hart rdb

but im glad i was doing 60 ish as it was far easier to coast to a safe place from 60 than from a slower 50 mph speed as im sure you are aware how busy that road is

I've jumped many fuel injected cars and they've never cut out.

I can confirm that Audi A4's make a nasty thumping noise when they land :D

Ford Focus' bounce when they land :D

Ford Escort boot lids spring open when they land :D
