Bike drier's

I'd suggest a leaf blower also. The old style ones are cheap and strong. You could try to find a venturi style nozzle for extra power.

How do you get the leaf blower in to the hard to reach places on the bike?

I bought a leaf-blower a few years ago for this very purpose. Trouble is, there's no filter on the thing so I ended up firing high-velocity bits of dirt at the paintwork. I used it for 20-30 seconds before putting it away in the shed where it has remained ever since.

Something like this is cheap and should be able to find filter material. They are pretty powerful.

RE: Air compressors

I've been after an excuse to get a air wrench (make it much easier when Im changing summer to winter car wheels and vice versa), I assume the compressor I need for this would serve the purpose as bike drier well ?

The problem with compressors is that they are expensive to run... (or used to be???)

modern compressors are pretty much maintenance free - why more expensive to run?
my old one died and thinking of replacing with this: Stanley B6CC304SCR004 24Ltr Air Compressor 240V for all round use

Get yourself a compressor. It'll do a 1001 jobs. You'll wonder how you ever managed without one. Get one with a decent holding tank though, or you'll end up running out of puff.

no good, most compressors dont have sufficient volume, the dog grooming ones are lower pressure but much higher volume. Only reason I know is that the wife has one for grooming the dogs, and we tried the compressor before getting the dog blower!!!

A blower probably around 300W a small compressor about 1100W (1.5 hp)??
They are great if you have regular need for air, tools, tyres, painting, etc. I think a bit too much as a dryer.

Dogs not fit in tumble dryer, I assume...

A compressor can drive an air multiplier venturi. A cheap leaf blower costs about £40 on eBay Never use it for garden work and put a pop sock over the end (with elastic band) to trap debris.
BTW, they usually have a removable spout.
Personally I don't see the point. If the bike is clean a few water drops won't do any harm. If it's for putting the bike away over winter use a wet vac on blow c/w pop sock. ;)

I'm happy to reveal that I have one of these and I don't care what anyone says, these are great if you ride through the winter and only have a damp garage to store your bike. Each to his own and all that jazz......

If you've ever seen one in action you'd be surprised how much water comes out from all those nooks and crannies that otherwise would sit there all winter gradually rotting your bike away. Bendy, maybe you'd have less work to do on your corrosion if you had used one...... ;). In the summer I just ride the bike to dry it off but even if I don't the relatively warm temps in the garage will dry it off. Over the winter though is another story especially in my damp garage with zero ventilation.

I doubt mine would have benefitted from a leaf blower. It was stored outside for a year.
However, my back frame was corroding even under the seat mounting rubbers. These fully sealed from any moisture had never come off since the bike was built in 2008. It had to have been painted over rust.
My front frame and engine top paint were damaged by a spillage - probably brake fluid but frame was also rusting under the paint in other inaccessible places. A leaf blower could not get into every corner under the petrol tank.
My brother also has a 2008 GSA. His rear frame, front engine cover and FD case are heading the same way as mine. The garage at his last house was not especially dry but his 1997 Aprilia Pegaso was stored in the same place with virtually no corrosion.

The Aprilia has had little cosmetic care & attention but has a far more durable paint finish than the 10 years younger BMW.

BTW bro's engine cover has a crud catcher (makes sense the Remus headers have no cross tube) but corrosion is running from under the alternator cover. Mine did just the same. Mine didn't have a crud catcher.

I'm sure blowing excess water away can't do any harm. And - on a car a lot less likely to scratch paint than a chammy leather. But a £12000 bike should not be painted withe the stuff no better than a Chinese garden chair.
