Hi,

I have a problem with my 2005 1200. That has just gotten worse.

When I back of the gas, the revs don't come down right away. It's like the cable or something is sticking.

Just was wondering what this is and what the fix is? New cable, etc??

Thanks

Rick

Without the engine running open the throttle a tad and then let it go, you should be able to hear a click from each throttle body as the throttle valve snaps back onto the stops. If you can't hear a click on one side you should suspect a tight, displaced or damaged cable. Have you recently had the tank off or moved anything near where the cables are routed?

I had a similar problem on my old 1200 which i'm pretty sure was a issue with the servos that lift the throttles off their seats to provide fast running when cold. (this used to be done manually with a cable on the 1100's) Something in the mechanism got screwed up which held one valve open for a few seconds even when the throttle was shut. It cleared itself and the problem never came back, but that's my best guess as what's wrong with yours

Thanks, I tried what you said and did not here anything.

The hand-throttle also sticks and does not spring back right away.

Sounds like the cable is sticking, or maybe even the hand-throttle itself. Is the rubber jammed up against the bar-end?

Check that the butterfly valve on each throttle body rotates easily by trying to move them by hand without using the throttle.

If you open and close the hand-throttle you can look at each throttle body on the inside where the cable goes over the semi-circular cable guide to see if they are closing ok (the cable will go slack if the butterfly valve sticks)

Thanks again.:thumb2 The hand-throttle was sticking against the handlebar-end. I backed off that hex bolt on the end of the handle bar and now it does not stick.

I will being going out for a ride to the store soon, so I hope that's it.

Just got back from the store and it's fine now.

Thanks TeaPig :thumb2

No worries mate, thumb2

If you just backed off the bolt holding the bar end in place then if it's still loose it'll fall off.

The hand throttle is held in place on the bar by the black box with the switches on it. It would be a good idea to check that this is tight and hasn't itself moved the throttle into the bar end. In any case you may need to move it slightly away from the end of the bar to get that bar end bolt tight again without the two rubbing together

Take out the bar end weight, push a washer inside the bar end, rebolt the bar end weight back on, the washer will act as a spacer to give end clearance for the throttle grip :beerjug:
