Does anyone know of a bike maintenance course for idiots? :o I'm obviously thinking specifically about the GS and having some survival skills when on long trips. In 24 years of riding (on and off) I have never broken down, but it's nice to have some insurance, or knowledge, particularly if when in outer Mongolia that BMW assistance may not come to my rescue.

I have had a quick search and can't find much on this subject so any pointers appreciated. :thumb

Thanks,

Bob

I e-mailed World of BMW months ago asking for this very thing, but didn't even get a reply. :nenau

I'm sure there would be a good demand for a weekend course, but perhaps they just don't want people doing some of the work themselves and not taking it to a BMW dealer.

The thing is I don't want to replace BMW servicing, particularly when under warranty. For interest, I would like to know how the bike works, electrics, fuel system, etc. Plus know what to do when stranded somewhere remote, where dealers are of no use. Basic fault finding, etc; you know the deal.

Doing a course with like minded people is more fun than reading the manual.
Besides I hate reading manuals.

Obviously I'm not the first person to ask. :nenau

That's a very good link, he seems to cover the basics on everything.

I'd imagine the best way to get the heads up is to pick a topic in the
"Technical" forum and read through it, one each evening or so.
Some of it is very good, like the first 5 stickies etc, passes away my lunch
breaks nicely. :)
