Spent the day in London yesterday, saw parts 1&2 of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre... AWESOME!!! Anyway I decided to go on the bike and having heard about all the bike theft in London I was bricking it, at least 3x on here have been taken within a 10 mile radius.

So I went armed to the teeth with security. I had the Pragmasis anti pinch pin through the rear hub with the 1.5m Almax immobiliser 3 around a sign post with the Squire lock. On the front I had the Xena disc lock and Oxford boss disc lock with a cable though front wheel and round a bollard. I obviously had the steering lock on, panniers locked and Nav5 out but I also covered it up.

And there she sat all day long!

Not a stick of butter in sight. And a very happy ending, even if it did take me an extra 15mins to make secure.

The sort of common sense precautions referred to in another thread. Well done. I like the look of that Pragmasis anti pinch pin

What are you going to use to get the smell of 'London piss & spit' of the chain cover

Thanks for fucking up that quintessential London view :D

Lol, I'd love to have seen the look on a potential thieves face when they saw that!:D

GREAT STUFF!! As one of those that has had my bike stolen within a 10 mile radius of that (disk lock and alarm at the time), so when my replacement arrived I kitted up. I also can't rave enough about the peace of mind the Pragmasis chain and bike pin give! That and the fact I still use a disk lock, the bike also has alarm and tracker fitted.......I worry less now and figure I've thrown close to £1000 of security at at, so hope it does its job. Sad that is the state of the world, but as the French so eloquently put it....c'est la vie!

Good one, although I wouldn't be regarding it as a special treatment just because of being in That London.
What you did should pretty much be normal practice wherever you park your bike.....even when inside a locked garage.

even if it did take me an extra 15mins to make secure.

I don't quite see how that would have taken 15 minutes though....even if it felt like it.
Unless you weren't used to doing so,it which case it soon becomes a quick reflex procedure.

10 miles radius from Shaftesbury Avenue it's a pretty wide area... :D

Cambridge Circus; a former plague pit, I'd disinfect your cover ...

The Lithuanians must have been pissed off....taking bread out of their mouths.

I have actually emailed Almax to see if they can provide me a new cover as it's now been sat out in all weathers since 2009 and is a bit worse for wear. No reply yet...

Agree with using effective security all the time. There might be theft hot-spots, but thieves are mobile...

Just installed my CCTV camera this morning. :D

Y-Anchor goes in on Wednesday (arrived last week but I had to save up a bit for the concrete ). :D

I daresay 15 minutes included taking a few photos...

I've sent them three emails in two weeks with inquiries - no reply. So I'll be looking to Pragmasis instead for a Protector 19mm chain.

Bicycle inner tube sometimes does the trick. Free from your local bicycle repair shop, where they usually have a bunch hanging around from punctures they have mended.

Great job, but you were fortunate to have those posts available and at a convenient spacing.

I also suspect the cover was the clincher.

Bloody good idea! Probably more robust too.

Agreed. There was actually a couple of posts and a couple of bollards. I went with the thickest and highest. I did a little google satellite recce beforehand to see if there were posts etc but I had a back-up to go to Q-Park in Chinatown, which has motorbike parking but not sure if they had anything to chain it too. I emailed but they never got back to me.
