well, gone and done it, after looking at a few second hand bikes, and putting offers in for them I decided that with residuals so strong I'd buy new.
Not having the budget to a fully specced up new bike I managed to settle on what I did consider essential and placed an order with my local dealer after he was able to beat the best deal I had obtained to date.
So new GSA should be available for uplift at begining of March, only a few weeks to wait. really looking forward to getting some miles on her and taking in some sights rather than ringing the neck of the gixxer.
so now to look around for a decent insurance deal, maybe a new helmet. already got the mouse hovering over some mudslings and acf.
thanks to everyone who's posted in response to some of my earlier post.
Will post up once I take delivery and no doubt throughout the year.

Congratulations on the new bike! Great choice. I picked up a new 2012 model in November and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Roll on summer and some decent riding weather.
I tried several online insurance firms and spoke to several more as I needed a multiple bike policy, settled on Carole Nash in the end as they were able to insure everything for a reasonable price.

"Residuals so strong" ? :nenau

Do you think so? I'd have thought a 1 - 2 yr old bike would be the more logical purchase?

Nice to be able to keep the GSXR though - what model?

The economics not withstanding - you're getting a nice new bike, with all that goes with that. You only have to justify that to yourself (and possibly your missus :augie)

Where would the industry be - if no-one bought new bikes? Where would the dealers be?

Al :D

If you can afford it why not :nenau

enjoy

enjoy it mate . you wont ride the gixer again lol

Black Al, nice to see you back on here...........:D
The guy has a good point about buying new just now, I found that the trade in for my old bike was much stonger against new than secondhand. In addition when buying new the deal can also include extra`s for very little ie sat nav, bluetooth, together with a healthy discount on the machine, well it worked for me and mine arrives 1st March.:clap

Shinyface;)

Three things:

1) Thanks :thumb

2) No trade-in .... Residuals are not good in reality

3) Some say he has a bank account in Monacco, named after his pet Skye Terrier, and that he sometimes gets called "Captain Slow" - ..............

All we know is ................... He's called Shinyface!

And on that bombshell..................... :augie

I guess cause twin cams are out I wanted one of them, I tend to buy for the longer term, and had I not got TC then would probably have always wanted one. Most 2nd hand TC are fully loaded, and carry a hefty price. I got a deal which I was very happy with, and for me the small extra cost over a pre-reg or pre-owned was worth it to have '12 reg on the drive and only my name on the log book for the foreseeable future.

Gixxer 1000k4 been mine from new, well cared for, and certainly worth more for me to keep than trade or sell. anything newer is certainly beyond my capabilities so she'll do for keeps.

Don't blame you at all mate - I ordered a new RT SE last weekend. I'd also looked at newish 2nd hand, but NOG made a fantastic part/ex offer for my '07 GS. To be honest, not only did they offer £1,500 more than I expected, they even gave me £500 more than I said I wanted!

Enjoy the bike, mine comes 1st March as well, as you say..you're going to get a great feeling seeing it on your drive or in your garage, knowing it's brand spanking new & yours! :thumb2

Having read some of the posts on this site - not sure I would want a GS that has been previously owned by a UKGS'er - guess that if the tax disc is in a sensible location then it may be ok :D:D

Unadultered plug - farkle it up!

But seriously, if you buy anything, make it AC50 and a front crud catcher (not necessarily from me) as I have them fitted to my babies and they really protect the engine.

And - enjoy it.

Every credit for keeping the K4 as well :thumb

Good Luck with the New Bike :aidan

Best regards Stretch :)

GSA = Great bike, sure you'll be happy with it. Did you go for red or sand?

tks, ended up going for red, I love white GSA's with the red seat they look fab, 2007 and GSA30 look great I think, but the recent white with the sand seat and graphics not so much....are red not supposed to be faster anyway:augie

got some local tours planned for this year, and trip over to NW200 Road Races. Hopefully next year a touch of europe, so reading all the posts about touring western europe with high hopes.

I'm not convinced by the sandrover either. I'd have to buy it then change the tank panels, seat and decals to look like the 2006/7 alpine white GSA.

Have fun :thumb2

picked her up on Thursday, prepared and presented ready for me to drive off into the sunset when I picked her up in the afternoon.
first impressions, great, smooth, torque from nowhere, and great to be sitting so upright compared to the gixxer. I knew most of this before I made my choice of course, but the long drive home, yes, went the long way :-) just re-inforced that I had made the correct decision.
good progress on the way home, taking roads without a care where they went, I was surprised how some of them were so queit at this rush hour time of day, perhaps I was lost in the moment, no worries about the condition of the road, ignorant of the overbanding and ruts from winters past that would have the gixxer thumping on the suspension, magic.
weekend ahead and miles to go. great .....
