Hi guys.

just a quick questions! Is there any bike parking in York town centre? Me and the Girlfriend are having a few days away from the 12th (I'm from sussex) and plan to show visit york.

Any other places of interest greatfully recieved! Staying near Ripon so any good cafes would be a plus!

Cheers :beerjug:

No idea about parking in York as I never go in, but, and I don't mean to be funny, you do realise we are having a lot of snow and ice up here of late don't you?
Not perhaps the best time to be visiting on a bike.....

Nunnery Lane car park has a few bike bays. It's fairly central, near Micklegate Bar,an ancient gate to the City where the chopped-off heads of visiting Southerners were once impaled upon spikes , and just around the corner from Hein-Gericke, Blossom St. where visiting Southerners go to buy neck-warmers. How times change!

HA HA, Im sure I'll be alright, us southerners arn't as soft as you think! Plus I use to have an aunt and uncle up there so Im use to the northerners quaint little ways!

Cheers for the Advice and the warnings about the weather ( the serious comment from AdamA) I am a little concerned about the weather but hoping thing will improve a little and as long as I stay on the main roads should be fine! Fingers crossed!

Cheers guys! :beerjug:

The main roads are clear,at least they are around Harrogate,Wetherby and Ripon and I've just been up to Bedale on the A1,which is also clear. Very sh!tty, but clear. The side roads are a different tale though. Go steady if you're driving or riding.

Delete the above.
Another 4/6 inches of snow overnight.

Bugger, I am rather concerned now! Cheers for the road report. Im not leaving till tuesday, on my trusty 650gs (twin) I guess I shall just have to call it at the time! Im staying at fountains hall, near ripon!

Cheers guys!

Play save in all that snow!

Aye, almost didn't go to work today. I couldn't find my white VW transporter when I looked outside.:D

More forecast for the rest of this week/weekend too. Deffo not the time to be on a bike (and I usually ride all year if I can).

Very true, looks like I've picked the worst week to book a holiday! Im just trying to find out if I can move the dates. I'm not hopeful!

Cheers for all the info, stay safe guys!

The A1 and the main roads (A661/A61/A59) around Wetherby,Harrogate,Ripon and York are all clear at the moment,no worries. If you take the M1/A1 and then the A61 into Ripon you won't have a problem. The last mile or so to Fountains might be tricky if the roads hav'nt been cleared.
Post on here if you are coming up,I'll nip over and have a look.

Hi guys, I should be heading up your way (fingers crossed) on monday the
8th. Was wondering if the weathers is bike friendly? :)

Cheers guys!

Aye, its not too bad at the mo. We had a little light dusting last night but it's almost all gone already. There's still a fair bit around on the tops but the roads are ok, except for if you like early starts. There has been some really sharp frosts of a morning and they gritters have been few and far between. Lots of car shaped holes in hedges around here at the moment....

And nearly a GS12/me shaped hole in a hedge between Pateley Bridge and Ripon this afternoon  A few icy patches here and there.

Still some salt left on the roads and the last few days have been below freezing but at least it's been dry and sunny.:)
