Bike pinking

Just for sport, I raised the needles one notch. No more pinking above 4 and a bit thou. It starts around 3 and a half if given a handful ( but not lugging the engine). I’m beginning to think Mikeyboy is on the right track. It feels like the springs are advancing the spark too early. Isn’t 3800 rpm the full advance? At least it’s not pinking all the time now.

Personally,I’d junk off the old bean can and fit a wedgetail.
This eliminates the mechanical advance,
yeah, I think that’s the plan. It was a few years ago now but I bought a replacement bean can from Motorworks (I think?) but I the bike ran dreadful. In its Defence, it was black anodized and very sexy looking. They took it back but never offered a replacement or an explanation. I looked around for another but in the mean time I bought a Yamaha xt 700 Tenere and that became my daily so my trusty Beemer didn’t get ridden.

They had huge issues with the seimens kit.
Another alternative is the BMW/Bosch replacement bean can, again,it’s all solid state but it works with the stock module.
IIRC tho the wedgetail is a bit cheaper
Would go go all out on the dual everything or is the single set up reliable enough?

Ideally, you need to set the timing when the engine is running on full advance; not on static when you can only guess what the springs and weights might do as the engine speeds up.

Find a rolling road and get somebody to do a dynamic dizzy swing.

I’ve had no issues with the single set up,and I’ve fitted a fair few now.
Yep, I think that’s the one. I’ll have to wait till I’m back in the Uk. Buying stuff from the UK is bloody expensive for me now. I get shagged with import tax now…….
