BIKE ROLLED OFF SIDE STAND

Now that's interesting Like I said above Its pretty damn difficult to budge a bike when its parked bars turned to go left and sidestand down Needs a Damn good push to get to roll up and over Whereas Bars turned to go right a wee bump (when not in gear) can roll it over the pivot point

That must be one crap sidestand if it can roll off "the safe way"

I tend to stop my engine by lowering the side stand whilst motor is running in 1st gear which cuts the motor then I'm sure it's in mesh, if you can get this into a habit you'll have no more roll-offs

FWIW, I think this propensity varies a bit from bike to bike. A friend of mine had his GS-LC roll off the sidestand, too, and when I compared his bike to mine I could see that my sidestand has noticeably more forward angle than his when deployed. Not sure if this was due to assembly or placement of the mounting holes in the sidestand itself, but its worth checking on your bike.

Same thing happened to my old gs 2009 model while away on holiday luckily I had fitted cam cover otherwise I would have had a hole punched through
from the large stone that the bike landed on. My remedy was to remove the side stand and then grind away some of the pad which works as a stop for the stand.
This allows the stand to go further forward and the bike leans a little more helping to prevent the same happening again. Sorry to hear what happened I know how it feels.

BMW should take a look at Harley sidestands, they lock in place when extended, and are really strong.

Yes, happened to mine in my drive, tinyest bit of slope. Camel toe about 20mm thick.

Eh? FM I've had a heap of bikes with shite side stands and never ever ever ever complained about the stand.

I learned how to 'see how the bike feels when on the stand'.

Just returned from a trip down to Co.Kerry after our annual 'Evelyn Run' with some fellas and at Dursey Island the bike rolled off the side stand and ended up on its left engine bar. If there's any kind of downhill gradient and the bike has full luggage, it's not holding it. Same thing nearly happened at the top of Healy's Pass, and no amount of 'being in gear' or handle bar turning will stop it. Major design flaw and tested on the same slope in the same direction against my mates 2005 12GS and his was solid. It's a pity, because other than that and the rubbish indicators that BMW have moved to, it's an almost faultless machine, as testified to by the 990 and older 12GS rider when they took it down Moll's Gap. Perhaps they'll do side stand recall

Clearly a common problem, do you sense a recall to replace the side stand? Although mine hasn't rolled completely over yet I've had to catch it a couple of times, doesn't inspire confidence.
