Bike Stolen Today!

I'm not a 1200 owner so can't advise on the second part of your question...

... but one thing I would do is use an ebay 'saved search' for all the non-OEM parts you mentioned at the beginning of thread. Yes, it may be difficult to tell if it's your Termi can or not, but looking at the seller's other items/location can be a clue.

Good idea, I have added them all to my follow search option to ping me if anything comes up.

Cheers

There's a good chance it's sitting on a residential street somewhere a couple of miles away and underneath a cover (to make sure it hasn't got a tracker). Mine was pinched a few months ago from the back of John Lewis off Oxford Street in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Police were with it within half an hour (in Kensal Green) because it had a tracker. A second stolen bike was sitting next to it.

That sucks balls pal, I had mine pinched from inside my garage while I was at home.

Lost all my no claims discount and was treated like a criminal by my insurance company, in fairness my bike was 6-10weeks old.

New bike and got a tracker on it, I would recommend Biketrac as I have it on mine and they are extremely fast at picking up movement. I had wheeled my bike out to give it a wash and they called to check as I forgot to leave the key in the ignition on while moving it about.

Hope it all sorts itself out quickly but that feel for you as that horrible feeling of loss takes months to die down.

I use two different bays in Westminster. Both of them have ground anchors.Someone tried to nick mine last year.I know the big bay where your bike was parked in Harewood Ave.The Old Bill may have some CCTV ? It's a busy cut through to the Marylebone Rd plus there's the big cab rank there.
Disk lock was on, but in West Minster borough you have to park in Bike Bays where mostly they don't supply anything to chain to.....I am sure some genius thought that up! So I made best efforts as normal with steering lock was on, disk lock attached, alarm and immobiliser active. Was opposite Banque Paribas HQ which is a massive building with huge amounts of footfall of passers by and smokers etc. Middle of the day. Loads of other bikes in bay untouched.

Gutted.

Not much consolation but...

My solution to always worrying about having my Multistrada stolen was to buy an RT.

Nobody nicks them and - as an added (surprise) bonus - it's turned out to to be a surprisingly fun bike...

Thanks BBB. As a matter of interest, how long did it take your insurance company to turn it around and were there any reasons for the time it took? I ask as I have a trip at end of June planned and will need a bike, but am starting to worry that insurance won't act that fast.

Hiya, I had to look this up...and it's probably not what you want to hear, it took nearly 2 months to hit my account :( It took 5 weeks to get a valuation/offer from Devitt Insurance, but then another 3 weeks for it to hit my account. You'll have to go through an interview or 2 with a theft claims handler. They'll also want a host of documentation which they will use to calculate the payout, original invoice, service history, keys, V5 etc. When making a theft claim your insurance policy will terminate, so if you've just renewed that's something you can't recoup. I'm not sure what the deal is if you pay monthly.

Although I managed to keep all of my NCB it has been detrimental to my insurance premiums (a real penalty when living in London without a garage). I moved onto a small bike to help fix them but I need to get 3 years down the road before it's wiped from my record. Interestingly when I looked at online premiums, staying with a GSA seemed sensible as surprisingly my premium wouldn't go up too much. As you're out of London I'd hope you're ok.

I'll PM you some more info that might help.

My supermoto (mistake to have in Saaaf London) was parked outside my house with an alarmed disc lock. It went off one night so I moved it onto the pavement as I can't get it up my pathway. I chained it to something immoveable and had the alarmed disc lock on, and then one night 4 mofos on 2 scooters rocked up to do their worst  Fortunately they got spooked by a neighbour, but they shouted to some other mofos that were out of sight to leg it! They'd tried to burn through the sheath on the chain and had a play with the steering.

I now put a disc lock on the rear wheel as well, takes an age to unlock it in the mornings  Anyway, so you get those teenaged oiky scumbag types on low-end bikes like mine, and the more professional crims on the GSAs that just lift'em into vans and probably dump'em nearby to do the tracker check.

Happy days!!

I tried to PM you Oxforshirerider but couldn't for some reason - just PM me if you'd like any further info ;)

How long is your trip (miles/ time), and are you getting another?

I could speak to a couple of contacts and see if they could loan you a bike for your trip, on the back of you placing an order, to be fulfilled once the insurance pays out. PM me.:thumb

I have a mate who works for BNP Paribas.
The bay's covered by their CCTV
Please PM me for his details.
Geoff.

Cheers BBB all useful stuff, I've already told my work I won't be parking up in London any more when I get a new bike as can't afford to replace it again.

I'll be sure to get ready for a million questions making me feel guilty about having my bike stolen ha ha.

Cheers.

terrible news, sorry to hear it. Im moving office shortly and will definitely get Vines to put a Biketrac tracker on my bike.

Thanks for the offer to help out. Yes, I'll be getting another, the trip is only 11 days and have managed to sort out a ride.

Already have a holding deposit down on a 65 plate at the local dealership, I'll put it on finance till my insurance coughs up then pay it off then.

Accessories firms have all been kind to me so far too, shows the kinder faces of the biking community!

Yeah, North Oxford getting me one in for the next bike, I called Bike Trac today to check its useable across Europe (all GPS so not suprised but wanted to check). Expensive to put on, but not as expensive as having to replace the bike. Also have an Abloy 362 padlock, and Almax chains on the way......if anyone sees a bike with an armed security guard next to it, its most likely going to be mine as going OTT on security now!

Brand New GS.

A brand spanker parked in the bay next to mine this morning.
Not locked at all.
The bay has ground anchors.
If I see the geezer at home time i'll give him some words of wisdom.:rob

Wow, the owner will be lucky if its still there by the time the guy goes home! No lock really is inviting trouble, I know it means little, but may make them move to the next.

Police have now checked the bank CCTV and the CCTV from another building and canvased the other buildings round where mine was taken and no coverage of that end of the bay......have to wander if the scum knew that, as not even a van in shot at time of theft, and not that big-a-bay, so maybe they parked at the end they knew wasn't covered.

We are fighting a loosing battle!
