Bike to Bike Bluetooth - Sena

To start with I'm sorry I was a bit off, I think I was just being a bit protective after the great service we got and still elated with our purchases.

I bombarded sportsrider with question and queries and mucked them about with my first order, they were absolutely superb with there help and advice and nothing seemed to much effort - Which was more than I could say for some of the other companies I phoned (I better not name them here or I'll get a slap), one didn't even know they sold them !!

No worries :)

Given the service they have given and the price I will be keeping the two they sent me. I was pleasantly surprised by the very quick response to my query and the response wasn't the usual from a script response.

www.sportsrider.co.uk highly recommended :thumb

As are the Sena SMH10 ;)

My pair if Senas arrived today,

I didn't realise they weren't the upgradable ones but can live with that.

Fitting was easy although I did have to enlarge the space for speakers in my caberg a bit.

First impressions are good but won't be able to test the properly for a day or two.

"£149 for the single and £289 for the dual pack - Cheapest apparently in the UK"

Or speak to me :thumb

Thanks to chas820 for the updated article, it appears the writers used the adhesive helmet mount which I must admit to staying clear of both on the SENA and my previous Cardo Scala kit as I don't want to see my investment hanging off or worse.

It is also nice to see clarification of the fact that we all have the authorised UK models, mine from www.sportsrider.co.uk and I am sure most of you from other official outlets, could have been a monumental mistake getting them elsewhere!

I have used the VOX quite a bit today on our ride (not bike to bike) rider to pillion and found no problem or difference to my old Cardo Scala Q2's VOX which was okay, have never tried or known anyone with a G4 so cannot comment.

I always say the first word of each phrase twice as we did with our commercial business radios, 'called clipping' as first few moments are lost in transmission/handover sequence, too sensitive a VOX setting and the thing would be transmitting at the sound of every lump bump or bit of wind noise (not necessarily outside my helmet either).

Kindly got a price from Les to include P&P for a mate, think we will stick with sportsrider if they still have any - Faster shipping and less complicated receipt and warranty procedure but very kind offer anyway.

Interesting re Sena upgrade coming to UK but personally I can't see the point for now and am sure when mine dies through usage there will be something beter to buy!

Typical though, now I fancy one of Les's HID upgrades.

After reading all the reviews here and other forums, ordered a twin set from amazon for £239.95 delivered :D

The Amazon units are American models though so warranty claims could prove interesting if there's ever a problem.

Units arrived today and they are the new version, Defiantly look and feel solid. Fitting was straight forward on both Multitec and evoline2 Carried out a quick test paired up with my blackberry easily, phone and music both come through very clear. Will test them on the bike tomorrow before ripping out the starcom.

Just been out for a ride today (see my route to Blades Cafe Northleach) and seen the new SENA SMH10 Motorcycle Bluetooth Stereo Headset that a guy had, thought they were really expensive until he told me what he'd paid on a deal. Got home and, after forgetting what he'd said, found that www.sportsrider.co.uk have a promotion on at £149 for the single and £289 for the dual pack - Cheapest apparently in the UK, worth a look and I'm certainly up for a couple at that price".

Just thought I'd update this posting. I was so impressed that I've bought one. If anyone is thinking about bike comms, I can thoroughly recommend these. The clarity is fantastic. I went for a ride with the same guy. The pairing stays open, so no tapping buttons etc, just talk. Brilliant at all kinds of speeds. I rang a few people whilst out (just to try it), they had no idea I was on my bike let alone doing 60+. I never thought I'd say this, but it was also quite pleasant listening to music on the way back.

Just to chuck a spanner in the works, the scala g4 has good reports?
Wonder what is best if running down this route? I.E. returns for both , which offers the best benifit?
Just pure interest, not knocking anyone . Amazon is selling the Scalla g4 for around the same price hence my question . £144 off .
No offence intended , before any one starts , going down the Auto com route, just wondering

First real long test

I've just come back from a 3 day euro mini tour to Colditz 700 miles day 1, 200 miles day 2, 600 miles day 3, which is the first long test with the Sena unit, every other long ride ive used the starcom.
Here are my findings.
Installation of the mount is simple, its a bracket that clamps onto the side of your helmet, wires tuck away easily and look robust. I've fitted mine with no cuts to the skirt of my Shoei Multitec something i couldnt do with the Starcom. The original fitting mount with boom mic isnt long enough for my Shark Evo, but i purchased an additional mount with a longer boom for that and works great.
Paired my Zumo 550 with SD card music with my Phone and then paired with the sena.
Started the unit up at 0600 (UK)for the ride to Dover unit started beeping at 2000hrs (Germany) telling me battery was going flat. Unit was powered off for the ferry crossing. Running a USB lead from my powered tank bag to the unit, doesnt look great but it works (unused recharge time is 3 hours, add an extra hour or so if being used)
Sound quality was OK, but the 550 is mono where as the 660 is AD2P so music clarity will be better. Music direct bluetooth from my Blackberry 9900 is crystal clear.
Call quality is spotless, far superior to the starcom unit. (Ive also tested calls at 110 on a CBR600 and was clear to both me and the caller, to a point the caller didnt believe i was on a bike)
Bluetooth connectivity is simple and painless, and music still played to my helmet from my bike at 100m away.
If you get the B version (Amazon link i previously posted) Firmware updates to iron out little niggles are very simple.
I would always forget to replug myself into the starcom if i was on a scatter rally where im on and off the bike alot, that issue is no longer there with the Sena.
Volume control is easy, fast forwarding/pausing/rewinding of tracks is simple, using the phone function is also easy, Simply forward or back on the jog dial on the side of my helmet, no more reaching for the ugly volume control of the starcom, which i cant use if i have muffs on.
I have now ripped out my starcom where it will gather dust in the garage, love the Sena.
One added bonus is if you are only popping down the shop or doing a short run, you can pair your phone (with music on) to the Sena and still listen to tunes without messing around pluging in or using the horendous bluetooth unit Starcom use.
The other added bonus is they do umpteen different helmet fittings so if you have multiple helmets you can just simply add a new mount.
I haven't lost any quality on music or calls, i would say i have gained quality in both areas.
Hope thats helped, ive been as honest as i can, but it really is a brilliant system. I've probably rattled on long enough now so will stop boring you with my love of the Sena unit.
