One year old BMW GS 1250 started first thing then won’t turn over.
Took it to Dick Lovett for a service he said he has raised concern over the battery in June.
Third time this has happened so waiting for BMW road side assistance.
Been on an optimate so battery should be good.
Tech guy up Lovett said shouldn’t use optimate use the BMW one instead.
Never had this problem on a GS before.
Not happy

I use an optimate with mine, BMW even fitted the lead to the battery for me and they didn't say anything about not using optimate. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

My 1250 battery was shit, bike was bought approved used from BMW, couldn't be arsed getting into a fight with the supplying dealer as they always say its a consumable item anyway.

BMW assist will only jump start you with a booster pack.

I fitted a set of tails for a lithium booster pack after being stranded once too often, then thought sod it and bought a quite expensive Motobatt Hybrid battery ( a combination of AGM and Lithium technology).

The new battery has been fantastic, I highly recommend them:

Common problem, I know you shouldn't have to but just buy a jump pack .
Like I've said before on a previous post a friend bought a 1250 used approved gs & was advised by the sales man to buy a jump pack ! .

You guys who carry a jump pack, what are you using?

Ring bmw direct ask calmly for them to intervene
Battery is a known issue should not fail on a year old bike
Also optimate is not an issue that’s the usual dealer bollox
It’s on its way up to Lovett’s as we speak.👍

I've just done 10 days at the Manx GP in all sorts of conditions. Bike started 1st time every time no matter how hard the soaking and damp was. The first time you had an issue with the battery was the time to react.

Can't see the BMW branded optimate is any better than the industry standard, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Thanks going to get a new battery whatever they say.

Hmmmm..... I've used an Optimate 4 with a SAE lead direct to my battery rather than going via canbus on 3 LC GS' and it's now on my 1250RS and I've never had a problem withthe battery on any of them :nenau

Probably beacuse you had good batterys in the first place ;)

Unless your charger is god, no battery can return from the dead :D

Change the battery to a hybrid like already mentioned....issue is now completely gone

No longer need to carry a booster

I thought it was mainly the 2019 bikes that had this issue but if the OP's is only a year old that's obviously a 2023 bike. I didn't think I needed to worry about mine (2024 bike) but wonder if I should also look at getting a hybrid battery

I cannot stress enough how obvious the difference is now when starting my bike. Its instant, time and time again, absolutely zero hesitation (I replaced an almost brand new battery with the hybrid so wasn't expecting so much of a change)

Plus you save quite a bit of weight AND its only about 2/3rds the size of the AGM battery....

PLUS you charge it the exact same way so don't need a fancy charger/maintainer (though its never needed leaving on charge)
