2012 1200RT MU, turn the bike on, dash lights tells me it’s in neutral, No warning triangle therefore it can’t do the diagnostic check, press starter button, nothing😞, connected GS911 and run Auto-scan, perfect, only one fault code for heated seats but they were on the bench, am at a loss, any help would be appreciated,

Thanks guys, first off, Voltage is 12.6 verified by test meter and gs911, bike in neutral as indicated by top dash panel, slide stand up.
Kill switch is off, haven’t dismantled it yet but it seems ok
No ‘click’ heard when trying to start except for a relay used and connected to front sat Nav socket ( for my sat Nav) but I unplugged that just in case it was interfering with the startup, normally I switch on and the top panel lights up with a green N and red triangle with ABS flashing, only then will it perform the diagnostic check, only thing lit is the green N, as per attached photo.IMG_0923.jpeg

Can you push the bike about fifty yards down the road and try again?

Worryingly, mine has just done the same thing ('63 TC GSA).
I went to the local Coop (15 miles from Mugello, Italy) and switched on to leave, sat nav fired up with side stand up and in neutral. I then flicked the kill switch to the live position, pressed the start button and nothing!
I checked everything was OK, switched ignition off and on again and she fired when I wanted her to this time.
This could be a concern to us all and my Italian is shite!

Thanks for the replies guys, all helpful but unfortunately when it’s switched on the bikes orange triangle and ABS lights should also be on, they’re not, only thing lit is the neutral light, which goes out if in gear so the screen is then blank, it must complete the diagnostic check and only then can you start it, am convinced it’s the antenna ring around the ignition switch but when I visited the very friendly BMW dealer the technician noticed when I showed him the above photo said the fuel gauge is blank and said that makes him bet it’s the kill switch, went home and pulled it apart (make sure you have T8 Torx screwdrivers) the kill switch is simply a press and release switch like a door bell, to me it’s perfect, so am going back up to the dealer to see what else it could be, I initially thought in was the antenna ring but he said there was also something else near or around the switch that could be, that’s when I showed him the photo and he went for the kill switch, methinks the switch does 2 things at once, mechanically you turn it on with the key, it’s then that the ring reads the key to see that it’s the original key and not a copy then it sends a signal to the brain to start the diagnostic check, think it comes under EWS in the manual. All very interesting and frustrating, but hey thanks for getting involved 👍

My bike has same problem did you solve problem

Hi gower boy….terry gower here..I didn’t know how to dm you… I have a 1924 sunbeam sprint like the one in the museum…it was purchased new by Luther Davies…handles brother. Can you dm me?

Probably kill switch or ring antenna. ECU won't turn on without either. If you have a blank dash, it's likely that.

Although generally a ring antenna would bring up an EWS message.

if the antenna is faulty ? do you have a user code to enter ?
would it tell you to enter it ?
I think mine is the ecu…Pins 1234 @ ring antenna should have continuity to pins 8,43,55,57 on the smaller ECU connector, respectively.1 positive…2 negative…3 data to 55 on the ecu…4 data to 57 on the smaller of the two plugs on the ecu.…on the ecu plug you should have the battery voltage [~12V] between pin-3 (-) and Pin-6 (+). (Pin-34 should be the switched +12V [i.e. ON when IGN ON]). I am happy to have my bike safe and secure…lol….as if anyone is going to try to start it in the parking lot…they will just load it and go…I don’t need this on a bike on a trip for sure! The ring antenna is just a reader…it doesn’t need anything as it just excites the chip and sends the results to the ecu…..one ring antenna could be carried as a spare for multiple bikes…some Ducati and such have unique ra's…
