Had a quick search through the threads on here but can't find anything..............

Went to go out on the LC today for a few hours but alas, it wouldn't start. Turned over okay but wouldn't fire. It normally goes straight away on the button. Had the engine management light come on as well. It didn't sound like there was a spark. Could hear the fuel pump priming.

Its had a new engine, only done about 1000 miles on it.

Now got to liaise with BMW assist to get the bike recovered and see if I can get a loaner.

Anybody here had a similar problem? Or can direct me to a thread on here if its been a common problem?

Why was it that I sold my 1150GS?

These bikes really are shite, I have a Sept 2015 GS its done 8,000 miles and had a water pump at 6,000? My first non jap bike in over 40 years of riding .I wish I'd never found this forum, there are so many issues with the GS it's scary ! My 2012 ZZR 1400 owned from new has been faultless only goes to the dealer once a year for its service.it can be stood for months at a time during the winter and starts first time every time and I have never heard of acf50 until I started reading this form.It seems to me it's wise to get shut at 2 years old or you need to be prepared to spend . The trouble is I love the GS ,it's truly a great bike to ride but if it ever lets me down or needs any more warranty work it's off and I'll give the new KTM 1290S a go.

so it's shite and you love it?:duno

The problems that are highlighted on here of which there are many Is worrying .A new water pump on a 1 year old bike is dissapointing but from a riding perspective it's a brilliant bike, can't get the wife on the ZZR!

If I had the problems some have had on here I would get shot as well! But I'm waiting for my fourth GS/GSA and all mine have been faultless. I hope I'm not tempting fete!

If you'd have stuck with the missus ......

LOL Excellent JB.
You're absolutely right, just like I was with the XR. :thumb2

Hi Al

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for ten minutes and then trying again?

It may give the electrickery bits change to reset. The BMW electrics are clearly the automotive equivalent of MS Windows

You get a disproportionate amount of issues reported on a forum. People have an issue with their bike/car and search google for it. They then stumble across a forum and mention it there. Nobody ever searches the internet because their bike has been great with no issues. I bought a VW T5 Transporter 7 years ago. It had done 108k miles when I bought it. I made the mistake of visiting a VW forum and I was convinced the van would be rubbish with clutch exploding, water pump failing etc. It's been no trouble at all.

I've got a 2013 GS LC that's now done 25K mileage. I had my water pump replaced at 18K (at 2 years old) and had one of the front suspension forks changed under warranty at the same time. Otherwise it's been faultless and been ridden to Morocco, Norway and various places in between. I ride my GS hard and it's heavily loaded with most of the Touratech catalog thrown at it.

You can always extend the warranty if you're particularly sensitive but unless you've been unlucky with a lemon, most brands will have some niggles. In the longer run, it'll be cheaper to keep hold of it than keep replacing (I've ridden a 2016 GS and couldn't notice any significant differences other than my pocket being about £5K lighter on a PX).

I have had 4 1200 GS's since 2005, do 1,000 miles a month on average and am looking forward to buying my next one :)

But some people buy these bikes to keep! Too many people just swap every two years so never worry about issues as they are always within warranty.
My first GS was a 2005 1200 which had everything wrong with it, BMW gave me some money towards buying another one otherwise I wouldn't have bout another GS. I then bought a 2006 GS which was faultless. I did 98000 miles on it from 2006 to 2012 and it was running perfectly unfortunately some t**t in a car ran into the back of me on a motorway writing the bike off. Luckily I was only battered and bruised. I now have a 2014 WC TE which has already had a replacement engine due to corrosion. I like to keep my bikes and it does concern me with the amount of issues some of these bikes have!

Hi Bill,

No I haven't and unfortunately it's been recovered today back to Vines for them to sort out. Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long.

I do keep mine, the longest time was about 45,000 miles and the shortest time was about 27,000 miles, that's more miles than most peeps :)

My prediction is that the twin cam models will be very sought after in a couple of years as the market is hit with problematic corroded lc models

Well Ive had a call from Vines and its all sorted. Apparently there was a little bit of corrosion on an electrical terminal which has now been cleaned up. There was also a loose sensor as well. Diagnostics all done and cleared. Just got to wait until Monday to get it back now due to work. Happy days. :thumb

Corrosion? where will it all end?:blast

Or is it just a case of something wasn't properly connected at the time of the engine change and has eventuallu rattled loose

Can you ask where ( location ) about was the corrosion on the electrical terminal ? :thumb2

I'll try to remember to ask them. I didn't go into too much detail at the time, was just glad that it was sorted and that they were happy to deliver it back to me.
Superb service. They wouldn't have got it much before 7pm last night when they closed and they called to tell me it was fixed by 1120am.
