Okay just had a service Monday , last used the bike Wednesday,

Walked into the garage today to start the bike up and click, nothing

So checked the stop switch , in neutral etc

When you continuously try and fire it over and get nothing,
What does come up on the dash , along the right side of the consul is it says key.

Knowing I've had a spare key done and coded along with its service on Monday I went and got that one and tried it. Nothing. The same :nenau

Anybody any ideas , before I have to do something daft like read the manual:green gri. Or call BMW assist:eek:
:flag

Sounds like a flat battery or a loose connection on the battery or starter motor!

One of the things I thought of , having had the alarm on and the bike not on the battery charger for the last 3-4 days so got it on the charger now , will keep this updated :thumb

Charger might bring it back to life as it's not completely dead! Fingers crossed

Hi Stevie,

I have an alarm (BMW) and it can be left armed while not on a charger for at least a fortnight and it will start no probs. Got no idea how long one can leave it before the battery goes dead.

Not sure about the BMW OEM alarm, but my old alarm (top brand, name on tip of tongue :blast) used to have an intelligent fallback position (so I was told anyway) where it would still keep the bike immobilised but would drop the power consumption to an absolute minimum.......certainly after a fortnight on not being used, I'd have to blip the donger twice to 'wake' it up to disable it :nenau

I'd be inclined to stick some jump leads on the bike, let it settle for a few minutes so you don't get any voltage spikes, then try and run it like that with a second "known to be good" battery giving a boost.

I take it you haven't got the plastic tag on the keyring because a possible cause of the key error is when it can see more than one key transponder.

Checked the keys GS, nothing like that,
SMB. I thought this also it should be longer than that, , I also thought of is it because I constantly leave it on trickle charge and I've never had it off the battery for this amount of days since I got the bike,

Fanum , Hopefully not sounding dumb , but does it need to be another bike battery , or would a car one be too powerful
Thanks guys for the advice so far

A car one will do fine, but good practice would be to have the car NOT running......connect the positives first, then the negative to the car battery then to the bike frame, exhaust bracket or anywhere that you can get a decent earth.

Don't try and start the bike immediately, give it a few minutes connected up before you try....that, plus having the car OFF, will help prevent surges. (if you read the AA ops manual on this, it also says turn on lights of car, heated screen etc etc to minimise the potential difference, but the key thing is to let the two sit there for a few minutes connected up and equalising)

I've jump started my old landrover from my GSA before now (several times TBH :blast) and as long as you use common sense, it's safe.

Disconnect in the opposite order, once the bike is warmed up (assuming it will start) and go for a 30 min ride asap to put in enough charge to re-start.

I believe that the BM one does this too.

However I don't know how long you can leave the bike without a charge. I am sure someone will be along soon and tell us.

I recently left my bike for 9 days sitting idle with OEM alarm on and not on a charger.

It fired up on the button no issues whatsoever :nenau

Is your bike turning over? Or is it flat as a pancake :nenau

All the console comes on , lights etc, tested the horn etc , but not even the sound of the starter motor clicking in to attempt to engage or the sound of a tired battery attempting to fire over the starter.
We will see tomorrow.
Thanks all for the advice

Did the lights dim on the dash when you tried to turn it over? If so a flat/defective battery.
If not then an electrical glitch tied to ignition/key/alarm I think :thumb

Therein lies your answer.
I don't believe in that much of a coincidence.....keys/ring antennae/whatever, but I'd bet your left testicle that's where the problem lies :)

perhaps disconnect battery for a few hours , try again.

my 2014 can be left for upwards of 2 weeks , and will start with one press.

.

You will never get a good earth from a painted frame surely.

no I wasn't JB. My bike has the steering damper and adaptation for the quickshifter.

but not that it seems to matter though , when reading the complaints.

Morning Tossers:green gri:D
Having left it on the optima the 4 overnight.
The distinctive click and whir of magic elic-trickery things , before you turn the key to the second position and fire it over .
It started first time .
But reading the further posts I will mention it to oceans today when I'm passing, because of the key warning coming up on the console and having had a second key cut and coded while it was in getting the 6k service is just to much of a coincidence.
Thanks again for the advice lads:bow:thumb:flag
