I'm hoping for a little advice here people.

After a trip from london to cornwall and back, my bike (06 1200gs) has stood for a good month and a half not doing much. Had it hooked up to the BMW charger for all the time. Now I cmae to start it again for a quick ride and it wouldn't start. My first thoughts were that the battery had died but after checking it with the fluke, it still holds 12V and drops to 8V when I try and start it. Some research on the forum pointed me towards the fuel pump controller. So I had a look at that... Corroded to the hilt!! So I replaced that.
Now it still won't start, on the first try it did fire once but then just cranked the engine. I think I may have drained the battery a bit when trying to start it before so I stuck it back on charge for the moment. Do you think I may have to take the sparkplugs out and give them a clean now or can any of you think why it may not start? :nenau

make sure the petrol pipe is properly reconnected to the fuel pump , it does need to be clicked in properly and can be deceptive

If you haven't touched the fuel lines then its not likely to be that....

When you switch on the ignition do you hear the whirring of the FPC?

I've not checked for that yet, will do that next time I try to start it. Off to buy a thin walled 16mm socket from Halfrauds now just incase I need to clean the sparkplugs from all that cranking and no starting!

Got it sorted, Bike started first time with the new fpc!! Now my problem is the sparkplug socket I bought doesn't fit down to the plugs! :(

I dont understand:nenauYou replaced once cos it was corroded still no start then replaced again and started?

When I first read this I was gonna suggest FPC but you said was changed.

Just because the outside is showing signs of reaction with the elements is no ibdication of wether the FPC is functioning or not.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that first time round I had not plugged in the cables properly. After having another look I saw that the top plug was not fitting properly so I pushed that on and it started straight away.
All thats left now is to machine the socket so it fits down the hole!

Get it done on a lathe.

Well, with that said you'd better pm me your address so I can get it out to you this week :)
Although, thinking about it now, I don't know if you can do it on a lathe. It is a socket with a joint going onto a T-handle. Can you strap that into a lathe?
:nenau

It is do-Able bit more faffin about,a socket would have been better, see if they can swop it if not just send the t bar. What does it measure across the "T"?

PM'd:D...................No you havn't you have no PM facility, get yer subs paid LOL

Is there a pin that could be removed to make the T separate to the socket?

There will be but I didn't want to wreck his new tool.:augie
It will either go up the spout on me illke lathe or i can bed at the joint and support on a R/centre or I cud mill flats or................................................

Probably cheaper once one has posted stuff and faffed etc.
I just offered to try to help:nenau

Sorry for the late reply, been away on work related shinanigans... Reading through the last post, a) sorry for not having paid my subs yet, something I just have not got round too :augie
and b) would it be simpler to buy one for a tenner or do you fancy the challenge karnevil ? :bow

It would be a good idea, especially for boxer motors if they came with one as standard...
