Biker in need of help, Dublin.

Update- having had a couple of offers of bikes, Rohan decided on the one that'll probably be cheapest to insure. Peter Bookey of Aaron Rider Training gave Rohan the use if his CB500 for the foreseeable future so at least he's mobile again!

Peter on the left and Rohan on the right:)

If you are coming over to Scotland when you get sorted out there is a room n board here and a garage n stuff, just get one of the Irish GSER guys to drop me a pm and the wifie n me will give you a base for a while :thumb2

Hello all on UKgser. I'm the Aussie tourer that has had the very unfortunate welcome in Dublin. But, I want to send a thank you all for your showing such incredible generosity and support over the past week to a fellow traveler and biker! And especially to Mide and Kev who have been absolutely wonderful in not only providing me with temporary accommodation and the best home cooked meals I've had in a long time, but also for representing me on this forum, keeping everyone updated, and passing on offers and contacts whilst I get myself grounded and organised again. And to Luke, who was the first to reach out to me and has been a huge driving force in getting things happening and getting the word out there. I'm still replying to those who have already sent donations to my paypal account, but please forgive me if I haven't gotten round to yours yet!
So, the situation so far: sadly the bike or luggage hasn't yet turned up, but the search hasn't ceased.
I do have a place to stay for a little while,
I have no got enough clothes to at least get me through the winter,
I now have a complete set of riding gear,
and I have been lent a Motorcycle for a few weeks.
I haven't yet had a chance to work out what I will need to replace regarding camping equipment, spare tools and other such gear.

I am truly astonished by the turn out here. I'm excited that I will be back on the road much sooner than I was expecting, and starting out again on my long journey home next year.

Brilliant to see your getting sorted in some ways anyway :thumb2

Hope you can now travel a bit of this fine country (i promise it is)

Glad to hear that you're continuing your travels, it would have been a sad indictment of Ireland if the bike theft had ended your dream.

Some bad folks everywhere but some very good ones too.

I am one of the moderators for the Facebook Group British Motorcycling Group, I have shared this story with the 850 group members hoping they will also help.
But I take my hat off to all that have been so kind as to help Rohan out.

I room and safe storage here in Sheffield if you come this way Rohan.

I also will make a paypal donation.

Nice to see the world wide biking community doing what we do best.

Hi fellow bikers,
I only made this profile after reading this article.
I hadn't heard of you guys before but was outraged by the story of Rohan, and moved by how you where taking care of him.
I am in the process of wiring some money to my PayPal account (it takes a few days), so I can transfer it to Rohan. It is not much but what I can spare. I sincerely hope he gets his gear not to mention his bike back, if it stood by him for 30.000KM he is gonna have a bit of an attachment to it by now. My longest trip was less than a third of that and I think that is a lot, but 30.000 is no small journey, and at age 21 O.o
I never had anything stolen while on the road but I can only imagine what it must be like that far away from home. I am happy to see he has "family" where none where to be expected. You guys rock!

Good to hear you are on your feet mate,
I toured Australia for 7 weeks over last xmas and had a blast. Beautiful country and everybody, I mean _everybody_ where so nice and friendly. I might have been a little careless sometimes leaving the bike on the street as I run in to sort out a hostel or similar, but never thought anything would happen. You story tells me to be a bit more careful next time. It is not at all unlikely I will someday pass trough Dublin on the ol' trusty two wheeler, and it is nice to know there is a community there like the one you encountered the past few days.

30000KM is one heck of a ride, I salute you, well done. I wish you all the best on your future journey.

Sherwood Forest Robin Hood etc

Free room and board near the above just give me a shout and check pm box :thumby:

Rohan, is there a 't' or a 'w' missing from the above?

He's practising for when he gets to the promised land :thumb2

It would be grand if you can give us a list of what you're missing and really need (the young lad from Aus, not Paul, I ain't buying a new chopper :eek)

See what I can do. No point in getting another 25 pairs of jeans when all you now need is a wee stove :beerjug:

It's certainly not lucky week for Australians, I travelled a little with an Australian bloke and his girlfriend in July through Alaska, since then we have been in touch, his journey was to take him from Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia, unfortunately 11 days from end of trip his 1200 GSA was stolen outside the hostel he was staying in, The police recovered the bike but a lot of damage done, burst the steering lock. cut the ignition wires and shorted out the computer, along with cosmetic damage, it seems they lifted the bike, then try pushing it to start, when this failed they dumped it so lucky enough someone spotted a big black strange bike and called the police. There are rotten bastards everywhere.

I think its crazy that tourists arent warned of Dublin city and the petty theft that goes on, because its rife.

Lived in Dublin all my life, its not what it was yrs ago....they can build stupid monuments etc but it wont defeat crime. The junkies walk around like zombies from a movie set its that bad, no kidding.

Feel sorry for this guy who had his bike stolen, Id be gutted.

Tourists

If I ever see foreign registered bikes stopped in Dublin I always warn them about the amount of bike thefts in the city. Everyone needs to do this.

Very welcome ooooooop north :)

Very sorry to hear about your situation Rohan. I have left my bike parked in Dublin overnight many times and not had any issues - I'm starting to think I have been bloody lucky!

Anyway - I have a spare room if you are travelling North of the border and need a bed for the night.

Please post a list the stuff you need up on the forum as I'm sure most of us on here have spare bits and pieces we can throw your way.

I'd always do that myself, even if I have to turn around.

Someone whould tell "Discover Ireland" to add a "kip"" tab to their webpage for Dublin city.
